The term 'Health Care Laws' makes me sick. We need to speak more about 'health care rights' as a people who work hard to make this country and our families go. We do not need to fear financial ruination, wether it comes suddenly when insurance 'runs out', or at $1500 per month until death do us part.
The criminal corporations have been gaming the system for their benefit for so long that to them, it's normal behavior. What are complex minds going to do if health care is as simple as asking for what you need and getting it. In a discussion of how the government is only a conduit for meeting Human need, Sartre asked Castro, "what if someone asked for the moon? Castro said it would be because they felt they needed it."
Anyone who doesn't recognize the complete disaster unfolding in the Trump White House and the Republican Congress is a gawddamn fool! The daily diet of manure that the king clown and his cabal of cronies shovel at a weary public has nothing to do with helping the little guy and everything to do with gorging the bloated bellies of their millionaire, billionaire donors. We eat their sh*t while they drink our blood! Brainwashed Trump trolls who can't see that simple reality deserve every bite on their heaped-up plates of dreck. Eat up, fools!
Now the bribes are being paid OVER the table.
These successful people that Pres Trump has chosen for his cabinet are all taking pay cuts in order to serve their country. Only a left wing loon would see this as a bad thing.
Instead the left wants people of diversity over experience. Political correctness over truth. One more thing, since when has the democrats ever cared about the "little guy"?

What about the little guy?
"Isn't it clears that Trump is favoring corporations over his supporters - and contradicting the populist rhetoric he spouted throughout his whole campaign?
It may be clear to those of us who choose to see things for what they are, clearly, but it is obvious that Trump supporters are having none of it. (Thank goodness they are in the minority.) They have decided that Trump is a "gift from God," (to quote more than one blogger,) and their supreme leader who deserves unswerving loyalty, and all of us detractors on the Left are nothing but a pack of sore losers.
When I was deciding who to vote for, it crossed my mind that if Trump got in he would most likely not keep his campaign promises. Why? Because his stump speeches were too good to be true; he sounded like a Progressive and not some affluent elitist running on the Republican ticket. So, the moral dilemma was to vote for Clinton (whom I can't abide because she's a DLC, PNAC, NWO, Neo-Liberal with absolutely no intentions of keeping the campaign promises she temporarily borrowed from Bernie Sanders, ) or to vote for Trump.
Once, a long while ago, I voted for George Pataki for Governor of NY. I've regretted it ever since for crossing over and trusting that side of the aisle to be anything but greedy betrayers and he didn't disappoint when he tried to sell the NY Thruway into private hands (which I personally thwarted). So, I did the only conscionable thing one could do caught between two fools; I voted Green.
At the time I was one of those who figured that it didn't really matter; a Clinton or a Trump. Both were bad news. Then I thought, if Trump gets in he will definitely wake up this country in ways that Clinton never would, and even though we are going to go through some terrible times, if this country does, in fact, wake up and mobilize, it will be the best thing possible.
For some strange reason, constituents seem to fall in love with their candidate and can't see any fault lines. If Clinton had gotten in, her adoring fans would have failed to notice the continuing and deepening corruption which would have gone on unchecked for who knows how long.
No such thing can happen with Trump. He's so outlandish, so bombastic that nothing he does is going to go unnoticed unless he goes covert with it. I think Thom once said, "Trump is setting the table" for a massive move to the Left in coming elections. I think so, too. I see Trump as a bulldozer that is going to knock everything down and clear the field of so much of the old guard that it will give us a clean canvas to work with. We are going to go through a terrible time with his policies but it will be a great cathartic.
If Trump doesn't wake up this country, then nothing will and if this country follows through and goes Progressive, we'll be given an opportunity to fast-track some fundamental sanity and leave a better, safer world for the kids coming along.
The repeal smells like the Tillerson/Exxon, Trump, Putin love triangle to me. An odor of urine mixed with crude!
Government needs to be shut down immediately for national security until the treason is exposed and prosecuted. For gods sake...McConnell shut it down for eight years....and the media never even mentioned it.

Carnival "Barker" for sure, right before our eyes...... But still; 40 or so percent of the "base" still trumpet him..... And; scary as real Hell thought; we meet these people operating motor vehicles daily on the roads our tax dollars built! And I might add, that the corporations have used for years with no or minimal "externality tax" of their products by tearing them up with the weight of moving their ill gotton profits! Thom is correct; the externalities are a great part of their profits on our backs! But, give them another tax break and watch the reinvestment....... BULL CRAP! GREED! They won't quit even if the real God does institute the second coming. They would hollar "ALEIENS"..... Which is the true definition in the bible. Won't it said "I am not of this world"? In the "King James Version"....
The government should be focused on creating a good business environment in America so American companies don't want to leave.
Of course anyone who believed him fits right into that old saying "there's a sucker born every minute".

Thom- I agree with the sentiment in one comment about about trying to air your program in red states. I am amazed at how the NYTimes is missing the boat on the voter purge story. The Russian issue seems to have taken front and center stage. The spokespeople like Conway, Miller, and others is, frankly, pretty breathtaking. Somehow I think the Russian issue and firing of Flynn may be a small but significant turning point for those of us that hope that the truth will come out on so many issues from "interstate crosscheck" to Russian hacking to Trump's taxes and many more. I for one appreciate your column so much and have tried to get others in Maine to sign up for your program. I am considering purchasing 20 copies of the Palast film and seeing who should get copies that need to know about this part of the overthrow of Hillary Clinton. I read on Greg's website that his film opens in LA and soon may be in select theaters nationwide. Anyway- thanks Thom for all you do.

Elections have consequences, and every decision is a road of no return.
Although it's nearly impossible to anticipate every turn of fate on any chosen path, it's highly doubtful Al Gore would have lied America into war, especially over oil, or deregulated Wall Street and the investment banking industry, whose unchecked greed almost destroyed the world economy and created the deepest recession since the Great Depression. Rather, it's highly likely he would have set a course -- with the help of an enlightened and scientifically astute Congress -- to reduce carbon emissions and to maneuver the United States as the leader of the world in green energy technologies, generating millions of good-paying jobs, many more than the fossil fuel industry.
Perhaps, fifteen years on, the world would not be rushing headlong toward climate catastrophe and economic collapse, and the United States would still be respected and loved, not hated and feared.
Obama tried to find a way back to a better place. Predictably, he was bogged down by Bush's hopeless quagmire in the Middle East, an intransigent Republican Congress, a right-wing Supreme Court that handed our government over to greedy billionaires, a monopolized press that sensationalizes the shallow and the trivial for profit, and an internet that buries simple truths under an avalanche of lies, fear, hate, and anger.
Bernie pointed to the harsh realities of a system totally corrupted by money and the difficult path that would return us to the original democratic republic of our Founders, one that was designed to further the people's interests, not the special interests.
Despite the rough and tumble of the Democratic primary, Hillary was still the next best choice, an intelligent and compassionate woman who was uniquely qualified and tough enough to handle the hardest job on the planet. Given the stark choice and looming disasters that lay ahead, the people wisely chose Hillary over Trump. Unfortunately, a severely warped system -- subverted by predatory billionaires and vicious liars who falsely smeared her reputation -- led to a rigged election that denied the people their will.
In fact, every investigation of Hillary has come to naught. Far from being the evil mastermind criminal and heartless murderer that the conspiracy-theory right-wing is wont to portray, her actual record is that of someone who fought long and hard for the poor, the disadvantaged, and the middle class. Despite an exemplary record as a people's champion, her malicious political enemies, steeped in blind hatred and unholy lies internalized as gospel truth, destroyed the illustrious career of this truly remarkable women, culminating with the vicious chant, "lock her up!" For what exactly?
Some on the principled left were understandably disillusioned because she acted like ... what? ... a politician? She took money for giving speeches as a civilian -- something every former politician from both sides of the aisle has done since the founding of this nation. She said things in private meetings that she wouldn't say in public forums. Where is that one super human on planet Earth who reveals all of his or her thoughts to everybody everywhere all of the time? Please step forward. Anybody?
Operatives in her campaign who were playing hardball during the primary stepped over the line and were fired. BFD! "I'm shocked ... shocked! ... that there's gambling in this casino!" Name one campaign in history, including Bernie's, that was consistently squeaky clean. "Politics ain't beanbag."
Why was Trump a better choice?! His entire life is a nonfictional, open book of lies, crimes, underhanded self-dealing, scandal, and outrage, which is far out of proportion to whatever fictional accusations Hillary has had to face down. Why is he not being raked over the same coals?
So here we are, in the dark, stumbling down a treacherous path straight toward fascism, led by a crude, small-minded, overbearing bully. Why is it normal that a shameless authoritarian and his kowtowed henchmen never hesitate to look straight into the camera and repeatedly lie directly to the faces of the American people with absolutely no conscience whatsoever?
Where is the outrage from Republicans? What if Al Gore, Obama, Hillary, or Bernie displayed even a tiny fraction of the incredibly crude behavior that Trump parades in front of the world every single day?
The hypocrisy is blinding, and this journey will not end well.
Unrelated....Experts point out that the stock market rally is based on the promise that the Fascists will cut the corp tax rate. The thing is, the proposed new lower rate is still higher than the average effective tax rate currently being paid. Chaos, Civil War, 1929, what could possibly go wrong?
Picture this if you can.... Putin unknowingly has people close by that absolutely abhor him and want to see him destroyed.
Guys like Stephen Miller will quickly lose their puffed up Trumpmerized bull sht attitudes when one of these russian patriots leaks info that will bring the 2016 election result to a humiliating end.
Our CIA and Comey's FBI will share in the shame. We'll find out what they've been sitting on .....treason has many at the table. Never mind WWIII, civil war will be at our doorstep. The Fascists will refuse to step down. My hope is that NATO will step in and oversee a redo of the election.
No, this is somethng new. The statement that this administration "will not be questioned" demands an immediate, strong response from both the legislative and judicial branches. It is a declaration of dictatorship.
That is what the Dems would do, and have done in the past .... the Reps are just following the example that the Dem set .... Like with ObamaCare, "You have to pass it so you can see what's in it". ... the Reps are not there yet, but the example has been set by the Dems.
A lot of it depends on how Uncle Vlad wants it to go. I think he would probably like Trump to have complete, unquestioned, unopposed control of the US so that he (Uncle Vlad) has only one set of strings to pull when manipulating the US and its foreign policy. It's a dictator's dream setup.
