It's looking like democrats need a 2/3 majority in the house and the senate to get anything done other than the naming of new post offices. Maybe then the constitution would be changed to make the senate have confirmation hearings on supreme court nominations completed before conducting any other business and if the senate rejects 3 qualified nominees, the president may then appoint a supreme court replacement. That sounds impossible, but, it's not. The way republican voters are jumping ship these days in the wake of Crazy Donald's nomination, it could become a reality after a couple more election cycles. Then even more could get done like getting money out of politics, removing voter restrictions and making voting fair for all, and redistricting the whole country based on population only and not on where certain party members live. In other words we need to get a hold of the democracy in our democratic republic.

Mr Kramer, sad to say, Hillary's associate was married to Democrat Anthony Weiner.

I certainly agree that refusing to approve a new supreme court justice is sedition or very near to it. I think the rest of what they are suggesting - special prosecutor to try Hillary on already cleared issues like Bengazhi and e-mail servers, they are already calling for continuous investigations into all of the already made up charges that they have come up with similar to 50 attempts to repeal Obamacare and the multipe Bengahzi investlgations already conducted - is very close to sedition also. Not sure of the actual definition of sedition (I think it used to be simply speaking out loud against the government) but it seems like they took an oath to obey the constitution and do the business of the people. Constant obstruction seems to be the opposite of that charge and oath. Can't we put them in jail for breaking their oath?

I think the Supreme Court is fine just the way it is. "Balanced." Neither party should get to sway that balance just because by chance, a vacancy needs to be filled during their administration. Both parties should get to choose their replacements as necessary to keep the court balanced, regardless of who is the current leader.

No, the Republican Congress just seems lazy, and too uninterested in the People of America to allow themselves to work for you and me. They want another 4 years of long vacations, full pay and healthcare, without doing a damn thing. It's time to stop this; we can't go through another 4 years of them doing nothing for us, and seeking vengeance for not getting to elect someone they wanted to live in the White House. They work for you and me, remember? It's our money they're wasting. This kind of ridiculous B.S. needs to stop, or we should vote them out. And who can say they won't do the same thing if their Candidate does get elected? They can't be trusted to work for us, anymore.

Hello Tom, CNN Blitzer repeatedly asked Rudy Guiliani if he had prior knowledge of the new investigation of Hillary's (Huma/Weiner) emails and whether they were leaked to him by anyone of the G-Men in the New York office- he responded with an affirmative NO! But, on host Lars Larson radio show prior to CNN, Rudy was asked the same question, and said: his FBI friends leaked the Director's new email investigation "boomshell" to him. So, Tom how can we believe anything the Former Mayor and Trump supporter says? Looks like the October surprise and possibly all the Kings men (Trump, Rudy, and Comey) are players of this political cabal to take down Hillary! Could you please talk about this travesty this coming Monday, the day before the most important election since Roosevelt's second term!

Demos and libbie/progs are beginning to understand just how implacable and unforgiving their enemies are, their 'fellow citizens'.

People who have read my blurbs here and other blogs will remember how I ride a conspriacy theory, notably, that the Koch Boyz' father, Fred ZKoch, was a well-trained undercover subversion agent, planted after deep training by Joseph STalin in the mid-30's.

It's still my example of the most successful subversion campaign I have ever heard or learned of...and it looks like the Russians have decided that the lonjg-term plot is becoming ripe and ready to accellerate...that's my theory of their interferance with our presidential election. The DOJ is completely mobbed up, with anti-constitutionalists on the SCOTUS, and in the FBI, and many other handy places to be tucked, for influence.

Clinton was absolutely, there is a vast rightwing conspiracy. And it's being sped up this election. What's that about?

The abundance of checks and balances in the US form of democracy make it easy for an adament 40% to block or neutralize the will of the 60%.

But parlimentary democracy in Europe, Israel, and Japan can govern despite the hostile opinions of many diverse parties.

Do not blame sharks for eating meat i.e blame Repubs for trying to get their way.

Blame the US system for being flawed.

Hey Thom, too much too say for this one thread ... just for starters, the term 'dark money' reflects racist dynamics in the language of economy ... you could refer to business 'under the table', or maybe, 'illicit finance' ... only, it really does matter how some people do survive outside the system, (some by preference, others by necessity) - so, what constitutes illicit, or illegal behavior, who makes what laws ... who does, or does not honor those laws ... who has money anyway, and how?

Society is an institution. Of the many mansions in this fathers' house, religious, political and economic institutions, schools, hospitals, prisons and psych wards ... all part of the cultural infrastructure ... you do play a bit fast and loose with on-the-air psych analysis ... even modern psychology has light years to go in striking a balance of who it is used to serve, and who to oppress/manipulate into the shadows - out of sight, out of mind.

Anywho, is there such a thing as a system that is _not_ rigged, one way or another? Today's political contest has "THE CLINTON DYNASTY" (( ..., please.)) ... challenging THE TRUMP EMPIRE ...

    What's next, "THE GENGRICH GULAG?"

... so many facets to consider - so, much thanks to you and Louise, and your team for your hard work and perseverance.

One more thing, re living with pain, if you don't have time for Yoga, Tai Chi/Chi Kung or swimming, you can get DVD's of Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen sharing her experience with Body-Mind Centering. I run it in the background as I work, or do my own movement therapy.

The Republican Party clearly does NOT "respect the will of the people." Nearly all of them are essentially stooges for their billionaire and corporate sponsors. And as demonstrated by their repeated efforts to abolish Obamacare, they really don't "give a damn" how many tens of thousans of Americans they will literally kill PER YEAR by denying them access to healthcare in order to please those wealthy sponsors.

U R full of hogwash 77 Reason system is run by billionaires is due to GOP anti middle class policies & Citizens United. MOney is not speech Money is POWER . C'mon, Thom. The word "may" is not a strong enough open door. How about "we'll know for certain after the election and the votes are counted."

  • Are Republicans Plotting Sedition?   8 years 16 weeks ago

Thom - I'm at a loss for how to dismantle and turn around the obstructionism from the Republicans. They seem to still hold the support of 45 million Americans, plus or minus a million. What do you think will make a difference to these people and what can progressives do to hasten a change in the body politic?

  • Are Republicans Plotting Sedition?   8 years 16 weeks ago

Thom writes a big editorial on how Gloablism is screwing us, and the next day heel turns to call the party of the one, viable, anti-gloablist candidate in 40 years seditious.

Make up your mind, Thom. Let's imagine your candidate wins. If you're going to be anti-globalist while remaning loyal to the democrats it's going to be a strange four years for you.

And let's be honest, it won't be four years. It'll be the rest of our lives. With the shift in America's demographics, gleefully pushed over the tipping point by a third Clinton administration, this is the last election that won't be a formality. You'll have globalism to complain about until you're pushing up daises.

Maybe that's why you carry water for the democrats above everything else you purport to believe in.

Dear Santa, and also The Lord Almighty, This is my wish list for every Christmas until the poisoned apples in our country have been dispatched to the far side of the universe:

    1. First, a Spine made of the strongest materials on earth for every Democrat. Got to get rid of those jelly fish spines, each and every one.

    2. Arrest, detain, jail, indict the oligarchs who support these obstructionist senators for every legal violation and infraction, from jay walking to any kind of corruption imaginable. Koch Bros, Adelson, Waltons - keep naming them, and keep them in jail, keep them in the courts, make their lives miserable as possible.

    3. To everyone: Do not patronize any of the oligarch's businesses.

    4. ... And, Do not patronize any business doing business in states with obstructionist senators, such as those noted by Thom, i.e, Arizona, and Utah. Demand companies remove their operations, and thus jobs, from those states. A simple start is with those Utah and Arizona call centers we know too well.

    5. Bring charges of any kind from any DOJ anywhere that has some cahones upon obstructionist senators and their loyal insiders. Make them spend more time in front of a judge than anywhere else.

    6. And pretty please just one more thing, for now: Investigate and Indict members of past republican administrations with the charges they've long been shielded from: War Crimes for W, Cheney, Rummy, Wolfy, Rice, et al.

... Keep the blast furnace and blow torch heat going full force under the rear ends of those senators and those who influence or control them, until all Hillary's appointments are confirmed, and Citizens United is as dead as Al Capone. And upgrade the Constitution with specific procedures for timely confirmation of judges, including term limits for all Supreme Courtisans.

Jefferson warned that the time to get things right was during the war, while there was unity in the country. The war had not ended when the political factions developed. Even worse, perhaps, subversion of the public interest has been ingrained from the very beginning. To a degree, one can escape from that form of government one finds egregious by moving to another state (assuming there is a state where the government does what the citizens desire and what the citizens desire is what one desires. There never were true "American values." We have lived in a society with competing value systems, each of which is burdened by some degree of prejudice and vested interests. As the hostorian Richard Hoftsteder wrote years ago, the dominant American culture is anti-intellectual. A significant majority of the people who somehow rise to the top of our political hierarchy fit this description.

This should be heavily advertised in every Senatorial Election state. Call it "not doing their job". They are waiting for Ruth Bader Ginsburg (84) to resign or die. Then they will have the majority in a 7 justice court.

  • Are Republicans Plotting Sedition?   8 years 16 weeks ago

I don't see what their fussing about. Obama and Hillary are republicans for all intensive purposes. Gutting SS and continuing these costly wars, droning innocent people, and now the TPP? How are republicans not happy with their president after 8 years of status quo? Is it to continue the illusion of struggle in a two party duopoly? The right is way out of control and the rhetoric isn't just in the public but now in our elected officials as well. The whole system has been seized by corporate money. Democracy in American is no more.

  • How Globalism is Rigged To Make the Rich Richer   8 years 16 weeks ago

The Axe Files Podacast (David Axelrod on Itunes) has an interview with John Kerry where he discusses the TPA. One of the few places I have heard it discussed. Certainly not in our 1% owned and operated mainstream media. He is for it. If it comes up for vote it will pass against the populations will. Both Bernie and Trump have proved its unpopularity with the Amercian people.
