I was a long-time National Geographic subscriber back in the day until Rupert Murdoch -- IMO, one of the worst human beings on the planet -- bought it, massively cut its budget, and screwed over a good chunk of its most experienced veteran journalists and various other experts. That was a sad day.
I don't really follow their stuff anymore, but I suppose that the Society, in spite of its owner, still manages to put out mostly good science, although I suspect Murdoch's main company probably exerts editorial control by picking and choosing the magazine's projects that generally reflect his worldview, or at least don't threaten it.
I have no evidence for that suspicion, so it would have to fall under the same rubric of Bill Maher's segment, I DON'T KNOW IT FOR A FACT...I JUST KNOW IT'S TRUE.

The Trump train was chugging along for two or three days through several states happily throwing out COVID viruses by the hundreds of billions, exposing hundreds, possibly thousands who came into contact with his traveling circus, many up close and personal, many not wearing masks or social distancing -- the debate, rallies, fundraisers, press briefings, Rose Garden announcements, not to mention virtually everyone who walked through the doors of the White House in the last few days, and probably through the halls of Congress during the courtesy visits with his Supreme Court nominee (who, by the way, wants to take healthcare away from tens of millions during a pandemic).
Talk about a super-spreader!
And of course, his lies over the last eight months led directly to the infections of millions and the deaths of hundreds of thousands, with tens of thousands more to come before the election. Yeah, it's hard to feel sympathy for a mass murderer operating at the level of historic crimes against humanity.
Lock him up! Lock him up! Lock him up! A prison, a hospital, a looney bin, whatever, just get him the fck out of the White House and out of our faces for good, somewhere he can be monitored 24/7.

Another thing that I saw today. I live in a very conservative Republican county. The Democratic county office though has run out of yard signs. But today I saw that a closed down gas station has opened as a Trump sign store and is doing a booming business. Flags signs etc, and they are selling them, not giving away.
Yeah, that's weird, especially over a big city. I've seen them do that with stealth fighter jets on the railroad east of the mountains on the prairie near the Canadian border, buzzing our train at super-low altitudes. But those were just routine training exercises out of Malmstrom Air force Base.

Flew North, then came back south about an hour later. I mean low. like 1000 ft above ground level. Never have seen this before. Military must be on some kind of alert.

Moving on (politics never stops)...
God forbid, if Trump dies or becomes too incapacitated to ever serve office again, it's too late into the election season for the RNC to select another candidate and have their name printed on the various state ballots. And many of them will begin early voting soon anyway. It's possible that many military and overseas ballots have been cast already, as they get an early jump.
Don't have time to chase down a million sources this morning, but from the little that I've read so far, there are a few likely but strange scenarios that could pop up.
The worst outcome would be that after the election is over and neither candidate, dead or alive, wins the required majority of Electoral College assigned delegates (a tie or third party factored in), the RNC committee would then send their selected replacement to the full House, which would choose the winner by a simple majority. The same process would also apply to the Democrats, but I'm not sure that if their original candidate isn't able to serve it would be the corresponding DNC that chooses a new candidate. Each party has its own bylaws unless they are restricted by the Constitution.
And of course, that scenario would suck "bigly" since each state only gets one vote in the House. And guess which party controls the most state legislatures? The Democrats better hope that Biden wins the swing states and the needed 270 out of 538 possible electoral votes (and of, of course, that he wasn't infected by Trump's fog of lies, bile, and aerosolized SARS CoV-2 projected across the debate stage at high velocities, and consequently becomes too incapacitated or dies. (Nature is a harsh mistress.)
As screwed up as our election process must seem to the rest of the world (It is), at least they are interesting, in a morbid way...like rubbernecking past a really bad car wreck.
