  • Who has more power… Trump or the Freedom Caucus?   7 years 47 weeks ago

Well said, Thank you, Deepspace. These truths are central to our survival as a democracy, to remaining a thinking, living, breathing, healthful human society. The human race cannot survive without compassion and governance that strives to better the quality of life for each and every individual, especially the most challenged.

I'm hoping the 'freedom caucus vs trump' war will implode, eliminating both sides and therefore deleting all current obstacles to healthful existence and democracy for the rest of us.

  • Who has more power… Trump or the Freedom Caucus?   7 years 47 weeks ago

It is very clear what Sen. Sanders' "agenda" is today; although, it is a lifelong cause rather than a simple political agenda. He did not drop the poverty issue, either during his campaign or now. He still, as always, describes himself as a democratic socialist, and this does have much support today. In fact, according to recent polling, he is the most popular politician in this country and is beloved by everyday people around the entire Western world, because he is genuine and is fighting for the common man and woman.

Democratic socialism is another name for what our forefathers believed in, which is exactly what FDR was all about, as well as most of the great progressives in American history. It is what created the greatest democracy and the strongest middle class ever to exist.

Gullible authoritarian followers susceptible to right-wing disinformation campaigns, lately perpetrated by Russian cyber warfare, are lost in mere labeling without understanding the truth behind the scare words. Our society is and always has been based on democratic socialism and regulated capitalism. The Founders called it "free enterprise" (without monopoly control) and "the commons."

Incidentally, "universal coverage" and "single payer" healthcare are two separate concepts, both for which Bernie has also fought long and hard.

On which "side" do you fight: for corporate fascism or for a people's democracy -- a constitutionally limited, representative, democratic republic, to be precise? We will end up with one or the other; such diametrically opposed political and economic systems certainly cannot coexist without major disruption and endless conflict:

This is very reminiscent of the Hillary Clinton vs. Bernie Sanders debacle that will fester and continue to enrage leftie/socialists for an election cycle or two.

It's not clear what Sen. Sanders' agenda is today. He used to speak out powerfully about US poverty and the need for legitimate poverty relief programs. He dropped the issue from his campaign. He previously described himself as a democratic socialist, but this doesn't have much support today. Democratic socialism does include legitimate poverty relief, and Sanders campaigned to the middle class. On universal health care (by any other name), the discussion can't avoid the fact of our poor. What would be the logic of providing more than emergency room services to the poor, just to dump them back on the streets? Lack of adequate food and shelter take a very heavy toll on health.

  • Who has more power… Trump or the Freedom Caucus?   7 years 47 weeks ago

Trump has been in office for a few weeks. It's too soon to know what to expect. My guess -- and it's only a guess -- is that Trump will do as the hard right demand. Democrats will remain Democrats. That is, if confronted about their votes on a particular issue, they'll inevitably whine, "We had no choice..."

I'm not surprised to see so much wishful thinking about somehow removing Trump from office, but we're stuck with reality -- and it's pretty complicated. Based on overall US attitudes and voting tendencies, Dems might make some gains in Congress in 2018, and Trump will probably be re-elected in 2020.

    Well said deepspace!

  • Who has more power… Trump or the Freedom Caucus?   7 years 47 weeks ago

Freedom Caucus LMAO....you mean the Teabaggers that couldn't handle being called Teabaggers. Using the word freedom with these Koch butt kissers is just as ridiculous as using the word populist in association with Crooked Donny.

What percentage of the population actually supports their extreme Libertarian agenda....maybe 4% on a good day?????

On the other hand according to polls Bernie's agenda is supported by the vast majority whether it be single- payer, raise the cap, living wage, tax the rich, you name it. Guess what, In a real democracy these things would already be law. Instead we have a Kochocracy with a bunch of Tea bag numb nuts doing their bidding...Freedom Caucus!... yeah right, very funny.

My answer to Thom's question...money is the real power in a fascist state, thus the question remains, who has more wealth? Seeing how Trump owes Putin at least 700 million, the real struggle is between Putin and the Kochs. The people I associate with figure the Kochs and Putin both have roughly equal amounts of wealth, around 200 billion. They're hiding vast amounts....which is why my figures are much higher than what Forbes indicates. Putin has direct control of a decent military spy complex, so I give him the victory over the Kochs and our country. Hey...Comey sided with him.

trump has to ask the Koch brothers for favors. Between them and Putin he does not need to make many decisions!

  • Who has more power… Trump or the Freedom Caucus?   7 years 47 weeks ago

Behold: a battle royal between the forces of fascism and of theocracy -- between deregulated greed and self-righteous nonsense.

Meanwhile, the world burns and innocent people are starved and butchered. The United States run by heartless corporatists and radical Christianists is an evil empire and the worst terror organization of all. F*ck em all!

  • Who has more power… Trump or the Freedom Caucus?   7 years 47 weeks ago

The Freedom Caucus will kick 45's ass. The members of this group have already passed the guantlet of the tea party and have been cleansed in the blood of jesus christ ready to carry their tune for conservatives everywhere. Whoever gave 45 the direction to attack this group really screwed up BIG TIME. DUH! "You keep your enemies closer" The Kochs can buy and sell 45.

  • Who has more power… Trump or the Freedom Caucus?   7 years 47 weeks ago

if trump goes up against the koch brothers he will be as sunk as JFK was in 1963. most of america didn't know what was going on then and things have only gotten worse in 54 years.

  • Do Republicans Want Big Corporate Tyranny?   7 years 47 weeks ago

I'm amused, by all of this. If I do a search for a particular product on the internet, I will find an ad for the product searched for here on the Thom Hartmann site. Is the Thom Hartmann show buying my information from the ISP's? If so, then both buyer and seller are guilty of invasion of my privacy.

I share your concern (see my comments below). I hope Thom Hartmann will explain the relationship between his show and the RT Network.

  • Single Payer Pros & Cons Exposed   7 years 47 weeks ago

Like others, I have concerns about why "Russia Today" (the RT TV Network) is carrying your show. I have no issue with your video describing Single Payer Health Plans (seems wise to go to that system). But, I am troubled by what I've read about RT, and wonder if they have any editorial input into your programming? I'm pasting below a NYT article that expresses my concerns: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/07/world/europe/russias-rt-the-network-implicated-in-us-election-meddling.html?_r=0 Regards, Bill Stanley

This makes you feel real confident in doing your banking, 401K, investing and email on the internet. What is now confidential? Why is it that votes that take away our rights always come out with all Democrats against and in this case a few Republican against but the vast majority for taking away our rights and privacy. Do you Trump voters not see that? The Replublicans are true fascists.
