Maybe. Maybe Pence follwed by Ryan followed by . . . . But so much has been so unpredictable that I wouldn't bet on ANYTHING right now. I just hope we survive it and get some decent and intelligent human beings to help resolve all of this -- but I think now it will take years. And think of what we've lost in terms of the status of the presidency!
Pence and Tr@mp are both impeached. Then Ryan is rushed in unless he's prosecuted too. Hurry Mueller, hurry.
Where there is smoke there is fire. If it does turn out, and we already have evidence the Ruskies turned the election tide for Rump, then the last election must be voided, like it never happened. And then if the evidence finds Rump conspired with the Ruskies to rump Comey to stop his investigation which we already know he obstructed an investigation of his ties to Russia, impeach the prick.
I can't help but wonder how much of this Trump bruhaha is ginned up by the Deep State who wants Trump gone so they can replace him with and even more fanatical, fundamentalist, *FAR* Right, Mike Pence. They let Trump run the race because he appealed to a public that was desperate to get away from 4-8 more years of Bush policy and corruption. But now that the (R) are in control of everything, Trump is too much of a wild card for them and they want someone who will carry their water quietly, and that would be Attorney Pence. I'm glad we got rid of the Bush-Clinton-Obama crowd (really sick of their baloney,) and for a time, Trump was a spoiler for the Deep State (TPP). But now that we have settled down to the daily grind of running the country, the Deep State wants to get on with the business of slashing America to death to make money. They shot Ronald Reagan when he tried to walk alone, just to frighten him back into line. I can't see where the Deep State would shy away from going after Trump; especially in the light of Seth Rich. In case no one realizes it yet, we are in DEEP trouble as a country and unless people wake up and get on it real soon, there is a good chance that some military-industrial Christofundamentalist totalitarian dictatorship is in our permanent future. As of late, the Deep State has begun to be very overt about what they do; they just don't care; they are in charge and are out there for all it's worth. But the country sleeps on...

The mainstream media is owned and operated by the 1%. Fox News is the leader of the right wing media and with its popularity has shifted the entire mainstream media further right. And the other half of the equation is the gullible audience of self-righteous hypocrites who willingly gobble up all the falsehoods and simple-minded garbage and then regurgitate it back up to their families, friends, neighbors, and social media as if they're spreading the gospel truth, with no independent critical thinking or self-awareness.
Rupert Murdoch is the pupit master for Right Wing media thru out the world. Alies work for him. Murdoch is the person most responsable for the destruction of independent journalism and the consolidation of the news and entertainment [propaganda] industries.
I disagree that FOX played a very big role. They have merely preached to the choir. On the broader picture, the US had been in similar messes before, when the richest few gained too much power. Each time, the "masses" -- poor and middle class -- ultimately came together to push back, for the common good. The (neoliberal) Clinton wing achieved what Republicans had repeatedly failed to do: They split apart those who aren't on the right wing, pitting us against each other, middle class vs. poor. The past eight years confirmed that this split is permanent.
What percentage of the population are FOX devotees? I think this overstates the influence of Ailes. Our deterioration goes back to Reagan's infamous "dumbing down of America" via launching the era of mass media mergers/consolidation. As many know, virtually all of the news that Americans get today is determined by just a small handful of corporate media bosses. They decide what information we should have (and how it should be presented), and what information should be withheld. In the 1990s, the Clinton wing gained significant influence over the media marketed to middle class liberals (online, MSNBC, etc.).
I think the greatest power has been in the Clinton wing of the Dem Party, who effectively divided and conquered the Dem voting base, splitting us apart (mainly by class). The past eight years confirmed that this split is permanent.
Brian and the republicans are so disingenuous. They are happy to pull the belt tight when it comes to any kind of spending especially for the poor or even incentives for clean energy which they inexplicably hate. He is also quite happy to see social security benefits taxed, compliments of Reagan, while the most obscenely wealthy in this nation do everything in their power to get a few extra million skimmed off their taxes, roll back estate taxes, and get rid of capital gains taxes. It takes money to run a society. But for Brian and the people he seems to side with, society is fine as long as the wealthy don't have to contribute. So the rest of the country who pick up the scraps after the wealthy clean up are the ones left to fund the infrastructure that primarily benefits...wait for it....the wealthy. Nice work if you can get it.
I hear ya. The same exact attitudes were ubiquitous in my (very conservative) state as well. I argued vociferously for Bernie's cause at every opportunity but was repeatedly blocked by the gender wall, even though in private most of these very intelligent women agreed with the FDR principles that Bernie championed and were repelled by the thinly disguised "third way" corporatism that Hillary exemplified.
It was very frustrating and disheartening, to say the least. I think they were convinced that Hillary would become more like Bernie, in word and deed, once she was in office. I've talked to several of these same women since, and most of them have tacitly admitted the strategic error of focusing exclusively on gender above all else. Hindsight after a train derailment is a valuable lesson too...but it's too f**king late! (Although, I held my tongue.)
There is no defense whatsoever for the underhanded tactics of the Hillary campaign against Bernie during the primaries, or for the institutional corruption of the Democratic Party, which went along with it, indeed, even encouraged it. Although there were many other critical factors that put Trump in the Oval Office, that perception of corruption (which was based on fact) and the gender split drove enough voters away that the Democrats could not overcome all the cheating and all the lies of the Republicans and their sychophants in the MSM during the general. Everything must be added to the list, obviously, for a clear picture of this historic loss; nonetheless, it is highly probable that the deciding factor was when mainstream Democrats (not just women, of course) trashed Bernie during the primary.
This needs to be loudly acknowledged and taken seriously to heart before any real reform is possible. Given the institutional intransigence of the party leadership, however, it is doubtful the generation of corporate apparatchiks will ever get it. They all need to be repealed and replaced!
The bottom line? Liberals/progressives split their votes and lost; conservatives/right-wingers, as they usually do, held their line despite internal conflicts and won. Ah, such is American politics and the f**cked up two-party system!
The past is the past. Now, at this late date, what is the best way forward to defeat the Republican Party and save what's left of our wounded democracy?

Get real, hotdog lady; people come up with the insane ideas that destroy other people's lives, and people pull the lever for Republicans, who are vigorously dismantling our democracy as we speak and converting it to a corporate state! And you, Ms./Mr. "washed up lefties," of all people are well versed in small-mindedness, so don't hide behind the skirt of a truly great liberal and progressive. In fact, why don't you study Eleanor Roosevelt's whole body of work, along with her husband's, instead of just cherry picking Google for choice, out-of-context quotes to make hypocritical points?

The corruption of the Democratic Party against Bernie was severe. I live in a state that Bernie won. I worked for the Democratic Party and in meetings it was discussed who you were for and why. The vast majority of Democratic women wanted Hillary because they wanted the first female POTUS. They did not seem to care if she was a flawed candidate. I heard it said several times that "Bernie isn't even a real Democrat". The female vote is what eventually got him. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was one of them.
