What's good for the goose? Not if you are a democrat in a crime riddled city that has been run by democrats for decades.
"Mayor Lori Lightfoot and her wife don't feel safe in their home so they have throngs of police cordoning off the blocks surrounding their home with orders to arrest all protesters. How special, and to hell with the other residents that have to put up with 50-100 shootings per weekend not to mention the millions in damage to one of Chicago's finest shopping areas in that once fine city.
Residents of that neighborhood have to show a photo ID to get around the barricades and into their own homes but are not needed to vote of course as dead people don't have ID's.
It is good to be a democrat.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot defended the Chicago Police Department banning protesters from the block where she lives, citing her right to safety.
The Democratic mayor said her family requires heightened security due to threats she receives, but did not elaborate.
“I think that residents of this city, understanding the nature of the threats that we are receiving on a daily basis, on a daily basis, understand I have a right to make sure that my home is secure,” Lightfoot said, according to the Chicago Tribune.
She said comparisons to how the police department protected previous mayors’ homes, such as that of Rahm Emanuel, were unfair because: “This is a different time like no other,” Lightfoot told reporters.
After massive street protests after the killing of George Floyd in May, Chicago police banned protests near the mayor’s home. Officers were instructed to arrest anyone protesting near her Logan Square residence."
They better keep a log on what land is being purchased! But knowing the Democrats, they will be too busy going their own way instead of fighting in unison for land that all the common people paid taxes to own. The LAND THIEVES will need to be convicted for stealing land. Every one involved.
To the topic of the article is basically what Jerome Powell could do to the economy and business if Trump loses. Regretabbly Powel has that power as Trump has the power to start a nuclear war without cause. I suspect this is not going to happen as Trump is not going to Nuke say China. That being said Thom is correct that our so called creaky and dangerous democracy that gives too much power to "leaders" needs to be redesigned.
What goes around comes around. Castle Rock is a small town (that is getting big) south of Denver. I happen to live about 10 miles from it. It was recently made nationally famous by a Restaurant that opened in defiance of lock down laws and was filled to standing room only with no mask patrons. This was part of a right wing organizied plot where they wanted many restaurants to join in and got one. What is not mentioned is that they were receiving state and city aid money ($6000) per month and a GO Fund Me of $20000+. The other truth is the restauant is a terrible location and compition moved in nearby that destroyed the business. One of the orgainizers of this rebellion is one of the ones arrested with Steve Bannon. And he lives in Castle Rock. The wife of Tim Shea that was arrested, is the treasurer of We Build The Wall. This is a $25 million dollar grift.

The definition of insanity is reelecting Donald Trump and expecting a different result.
They should have his former campaign manager Steve Bannon who was just arrested for fraud. Or any of the other criminals from his campaign. Or maybe some of the Russians who helped get him elected. Or the Grand Wizard of all Putin.
Regardless of who the RNC chooses to speak, hopefully, they will have some excitement in their voice.
I watched about an hour per day of the Democrats speaking and each of them reminded me of a hostage video.
Watched the DNC Convention last night. So nice to see Obama and listen to an intelligent speech by a former POTUS. Nice the amount of Republican Supporters that are coming out and supporting Biden. Also former Trump aids that are supporting Biden. Bush is refusing to attend or speak at the Republican Convention. Verify your registration and vote as early as you can. In states like mine that have drop boxes, use them in lieu of mailing. Minimize mail service in October to November 3 so that the Post Office can deal with the mail in ballots with its intentionally handicapped facilities. If you can, volunteer to help at your local polling stations. Encourage all to vote. This is the most important election in our lives.

The selection of usual Republican operatives available to Trump for the convention has perhaps dwindled. We know about the ones who announced they are not going to the convention. But, what about the Republicans on the down-ballot? Will they sit this out because they can't afford the stink of Trump and his criminal mob on their campaigns?
When it ends, the next day is the march on Washington DC. They will social distance, so it will be a bit different on the Mall. There is an on-line correlating event by the NAACP. What will Trump do that day to grab the headlines?

Extremists of any type (political, environmental, racial, religious etc) believe that "others" lack the ability to "see" the (their) Truth, and fallback to enforcing some kind of social engineering. Although pepople as a whole are not perfectly enlightened, they have evolved from pure idiocy and they do better thna that. Nowadays a lot of people see "through" the rhetoric of politicians and they usually do not buy it (worldwide). There are well known jokes about politicians and their "truthfulness" worldwide. For example paid walls, perfect solutions to health, unemployment, jobs, jonbs, jobs ("it's the econ, stupid") etc. Many who end up not even voting are simply tired of the swamp they are living in or trying to make a living in it. If a truth is uncomfortable, it simply suggests that a problem needs to be addressed at a deeper level and not just treat a symptom (scratch the surface). Proper allegories can offer ways of thinking "out-of-the-box", which may provide (usually does) a way out of persisting and recurring problems. Simply put, why expect something different if the inout is the same? Or in a more pessimistic version "garbage in, garbage out".
Of course, what is scariest, is that these people will still be here after Trump, hopefully, is sitting in prison. Although, they have been here all along. Trump did not make these people but he did liberate and enable them to feel free to run roughshod over the country waving their bigot flags high.
Maybe we can’t make them go away, but like any criminal, they should be controlled. Trump is a criminal and his supporters are abetting him. Just like the getaway driver, they are guilty too.
It must be really sad that you can only feel good about yourself by hating others. I’ll admit that Trumpers piss me off so much that I fall into that trap too. The one thing about watching the Democratic Convention is how Biden’s ability to not hold grudges and despise those Trumpers, brings me back down to earth. However, if he wins, there must be accountability for Trump and his criminal syndicate that have broken the law in his service.

Good rant @ 1, and true. Trouble is, since the both our "parties" are mostly owned by the monied elites, in the end, we get no REAL change no matter what "owned" party "wins".
Fact is; These are the two worst candidates in the history of the U$A. So, participate by all means, but, don't expect anything to change except the bit of therapy you'll receive. Oh, and if Biden wins, maybe our paid troll will STFU.

My model is, and has been, a major academic undertaking. To truly understand it will take study. The model is a synthesis of David Nolan's two-dimensional model, and Arthur Schlesinger's Cyclical Theory Model; elaborated upon to include non-democratic systems.
For the longest time I couldn't fully understand the full nature one of the critical components of my model: the Restoring Force. It required that I read "How Democracies Die" by Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt to finally realize that it is the sum total of the institutions, norms, and guardrails of democracy. With this, the model was complete.
Should you or anyone undertake what I request, please pay special attention to Figure #10, which illustrates the primary means by which democratic systems of government are lost; something alarmingly that is happening now.
