Hartmann: The Wisconsin Recall Death Threats

Graeme Zielinski, Democratic Party of Wisconsin joins Thom Hartmann. Over the weekend - more than 30000 Wisconsinites rallied in front of the state capital in Madison, Wisconsin to promote the effort to recall Republican Governor Scott Walker. Already they have over 100000 signatures - one-fifth of the way to collecting the 540000-plus signatures they need to officially trigger a recall. But unfortunately - those working around the clock to recall Governor Walker now have to worry about their own safety. Police are investigating at least two death threats against opponents of Scott Walker. On one threatening call - an unidentified man said, "If you don't stop circulating recall petitions, we will kill you." In addition to the death threats - Walker opponents have also had political signs in front of their homes vandalized and stolen. So far there are no leads as to who is behind the threats. Regardless - the recall effort continues.

Hartmann: Occupy the Super Committee...

Heather Cirmo, Blue Skin Solutions. While we're seeing what democracy looks like in the streets - we're seeing democratic failure looks like on Capitol Hill. The Gang of 12 - the so-called "SuperCommittee" - announced today that it has failed in trying to come up with a compromise to find $1.2 trillion in budget savings.

Hartmann: Aren't we ALL the press?

There should be no official press - no gatekeeper. First Amendment "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." We are all whistleblowers.

Hartmann: Press chooses "take a bath" not child labor

Tommy Christopher, Mediaite.com joins Thom Hartmann. We have an "official" press that's obsessed with trivialities and seems to ignore real problems. For example, Newt has both called for an end to child labor laws, and called the OWS people "hippies" who need to "take a bath." The latter fits right into the press narrative about OWS, but Newt's child labor remarks don't seem to be finding much of a home in the corporate media.

Hartmann: The Secret 850K Plan to take down OWS

JA Myerson, Truthout & Amanda Beadle, Think Progress.org join Thom Hartmann. More video of police brutality - and supression of free speech against the 99% Movement over the weekend. In response - the movement gets bigger. So you have to wonder - are police trying to help Occupy Wall Street? The assault on the 99% movement continued over the weekend - from police brutality - to sabotage - to new restrictions on free speech. This was the scene on Friday - when a group of students peacefully occupied the University of California, Davis - and had thiir mouths, noses, and eyes filled with pepper spray as a result. And then there's what's going on with the DC lobbying firm "Clark, Lytle, Geduldig, and Cranford" MSNBC obtained a secret memo by the lobbying firm to the American Bankers Association - outlining a plan to use "opposition research" to "undermine the credibility" of the movement. The firm offered up its services to undermine the 99% Movement for the price of $850000. So how does Occupy Wall Street endure these numerous attacks and continue growing?

Hartmann: The Good, The Bad, and the Very Very Dikephobically Ugly

The Good! One Wisconsin Now. The progressive group is spearheading the Governor Scott Walker recall effort with a campaign appropriately called "Occupy Walker." The Bad! Herman Cain. The Pizza man who is pretending to run for President is once again suffering from foot in mouth disease. In a recent interview - Cain again echoed the often debunked Islamophobic claims that a majority of Muslims hold extremist views. And the very, very ugly...Bank of America. Even though the mega bank walked back its plans to impose a $5 debit card fee - they are hard at work stealing from the poor
