Thom talked about the Supreme Court decision yesterday that affirmed the right of those held at Guantanamo Bay to the writ of habeas corpus - the right to not speak against yourself, the right to bail, the right to a fair and speedy trial, the right to confront your accusers, particularly the dissents by Scalia and Roberts.
 

Thom interviewed Bob Barr, Libertarian Party Presidential Nominee. They discussed the Supreme Court ruling on habeas corpus for detainees, impeachable crimes, the lack of oversight by Congress, how to deal with problems such as the contamination of tomatoes by E coli, doing away with federal programs, and balancing budgets - raising taxes vs. cutting spending.

Thom discussed the Supreme Court ruling that detainees at Guantanamo have the right to Habeas Corpus with Professor Marjorie Cohn.

Tom interviewed Ralph Reed, GOP consultant (7 presidential, 88 Congressional and Gubernatorial races) about his new political thriller "Dark Horse", the need to repent for invading Iraq, Iran, and poverty.

Peter Yarrow, singer/songwriter of "Peter Paul and Mary" was in the studio with Thom. He sang songs and explained just how amazing Obama's nomination and Hillary's campaign were to those who marched for civil rights in the 1960s. We should not drop the ball now.

Congressman Peter DeFazio of Oregon discusses the Republican's meme of a "ban" on offshore drilling, when there is in fact only a moratorium on new licenses; the oil companies are sitting on many viable leases for which they are not drilling. There is a shortage of equipment, trained manpower. And there is a field, the National Petroleum Reserve of Alaska, which has been proven by oil wells which have been capped, which is larger than ANWR is estimated to be.

Congressman Peter DeFazio explains why the high oil price does not mean we need to drill in ANWR. There's no shortage of crude oil - the price is rising when demand is falling. The oil companies have chosen not to expand refinery capacity, and are not drilling many of the places for which they already have leases. Speculation. The Enron loophole. Collusion by OPEC.

Jimmy Carter and even Richard Nixon saw the energy crisis coming, but Ronald Reagan reversed their policies. Brack Obama and John McCain have different ideas for cap ant trade to limit the amount of carbon dioxide that can be produced. Thom thinks there should also be tariffs so that corporations don't simply export the pollution to partners in China.

The great wounding of America. Do we trust government or corporations? Health insurance profits. The rise in prescription drugs. Biotech companies patenting life. The government lying us into a war. At what point do we say 'profits over humanity' is not something we're willing to put up with anymore?
