Hartmann: Troy Davis - could another innocent man DIE?

Larry Cox, Amnesty International, joins Thom Hartmann. Is the state of Georgia on the verge of executing an innocent man? On September 21st - Troy Anthony Davis will be put to death by lethal injection for shooting and killing a police officer back in 1989. At the time - there was no hard evidence tying Davis to the murder - no forensic evidence - no videotape - no murder weapon - nothing. But there were nine eyewitnesses who testified in the trial implicating Davis. However today - seven of those nine witnesses have recanted their testimony - and ten new witnesses have since come forward pointing the finger at another man for the murder. Yet Davis is still on death row - and is set to die in a week. Members of Congress John Lewis and Hank Johnson wrote a letter to the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles - asking for Davis's sentence to be reduced to life in prison. So too have numerous other public figures including former President Jimmy Carter - Pope Benedict - and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. So now it's up to the state paroles board - and Republican Governor Nathan Deal - to determine whether or not they will put a man to death with serious questions surrounding his guilt.

Hartmann: Crazy Alert! Eel Wriggles into Man's Penis

Don't go in the spa! A 56-year old man in China went to a beauty spa this week to bathe with small eels that eat away dead skin and are supposed to make people look younger. But let's just say things didn't go according to plan. While sitting in the water - the man felt an immense pain in his..."manhood" region - and realized one of the slimy eels was trying to wiggle its way into his body - through a rather small hole. He later told a Chinese newspaper - "I tried to hold it and take it out, but the eel was too slippery to be held and it disappeared up my..." Well - you know what. The man then had to have an emergency 3-hour surgery to remove the 6-inch slithery eel from his bladder. And in a new development in the story - doctors say that the eel was 6 inches long - but the man continues to insist that it was 8 inches long!!!

Hartmann: Republicans unfazed by 15% of all Americans now poor

Right now in our nation, over 40 MILLION people live in poverty...literally struggling to keep food on the table and a roof over their heads. But one Republican claims the poor are actually getting richer! I'll take him to task - and reveal the truth about poverty in America

Full Show - 9/13/11. How difficult will it be to get the rich to pay their fair share?

Thom discusses the possible outcome of the economy if Republicans were to pass or reject President Obama's job creation bill. Later in the show, he breaks down the highs and lows of the Republican Tea Party Debate with a guest panel.

Hartmann: Do Thom & Sarah Palin agree on Crony Capitalism?

I agree with Sarah Palin. No need to look up in the air - pigs aren't flying just yet. But really - Sarah Palin has a new message she's been trying out in recent weeks - and it has to do with taking on crony capitalism. Sarah Palin is right - we need to end the corruption in our lobbyist-infested government that has led us to this "for the rich, bye the rich" economy. Of course - Sarah Palin thinks the best way to do that is by electing people who'll dismantle government - which will totally leave those corporations and wealthy people to step in and fill the void. I didn't say she's bright, or that I agree with her solution - which really was just a sideways of attacking Rick Perry. But I think it's great that she's willing to identify and attack crony capitalism. But the truth is we need people who'll dismantle corporate power - and that means ending corporate personhood - getting money out of politics - handing the commons back to the people - and making corporations pay their fair share like they used to in America before Ronald Reagan.

Hartmann: 24 hr Proof for the GOP & Climate Changing Deniers

Maggie Fox, Al Gore's Climate Reality Project, joins Thom Hartmann. Proof is on the way for the GOP and other Climate Changing "Deniers." Researchers at the University of Breman's Institute of Environmental Physics in Germany have discovered that summer sea ice in the Arctic Ocean is now at its lowest levels since recording began back in 1979. And researchers at the University of Washington measuring the volume of that sea ice - as in how thick it still is - noted that the ice has now thinned to a record level. But despite these clear indicators of a warming planet - as well as the freak weather that's been terrorizing the nation in recent years - Americans are still unconvinced - and not too worried about global warming. According to a June poll from Yale University - only 47% of Americans believe that global warming is man-made - and just slightly more than half of the country is worried about the effects of global warming. Now - former Vice Presdient Al Gore is trying to boost those numbers. On Thursday of this week - he'll launch a 24-hour webcast to be broadcast across the planet to make the case that man-made global warming is occuring - and it's the reason for the freak weather we've been experiencing. Tune in @ climaterealityproject.org.

Hartmann: The Real 9/11 Conspiracy

Anthony Summers, author, of "The Eleventh Day: The Full Story of 9/11 and Osama bin Laden" joins Thom Hartmann. Could there be something that even our members of Congress haven't been told about the September 11 terrorist attacks? Our guest will tell you what he has uncovered that is causing one senator to call for the government's inquiry into the events of 9/11 to re-open. The American people have the right to know exactly what happened on America's darkest day.

Hartmann: GOP Tea Party debate...let the uninsured die?

Cliff Schecter, Libertas, LLC & Anthony Holm, Republican Strategist/Attorney join Thom Hartmann. If we learned one thing from the Tea Party debate last night - it's that the vision the Tea Party as for American is very grim. If the economy doesn't improve - and the Republicans win - then welcome to Tea Party rule in America where life is - to quote Hobbes again - solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.

Hartmann: I got the Republican talking points today on the jobs program

Richard Eskow, Campaign for America's Future, joins Thom Hartmann. The ink hasn't dried on President Obama's American Jobs Act, but Republican leaders spared no time attacking anything in the bill that may offend their corporate patrons. So, is the President's job creation plan already dead. And speaking of jobs, according to a new report from the House Natural Resources Committee - giant oil corporations that are obsessed with drilling are actually killing American jobs. ExxonMobile, Chevron, Shell, and BP - the same corporations that receive the taxpayer subsidies President Obama is pushing to eliminate - made $546 billion in profits over the last five years. Yet - they laid off more than 11000 American workers. So if these so-called Job Creators won't create jobs on their own - then it's time they give up some of their corporate welfare so that the actual job creators - working people whose spending creates demand - can do their thing. Come see Thom Hartmann at the FSTV's E-Studio at the Take Back the American Dream Conference sponsored by the Campaign for America's Future on Oct 3-5, noon-3p ET. Hartmann: Why American flags are burning in London

Could it be that we've become the America that Osama Bin Laden hoped for? Osama Bin Laden didn't just want kill or scare as many people as possible on 9/11 - but be also wanted to fundamentally change the United States. He bet that if he attacked us in such a brazen, gruesome fashion - then we would all lose our minds - that we would be blinded by fear and scream for revenge - and shelve the Constitution and our ideals to pursue a bloody crusade against Islam. That we would turn into the very enemy that Bin Laden had described all along - a nation at war with Islam both at home and abroad. And - in that transformation he would make himself more legitimate and enlist more people into his jihad. And in the end - Bush chose to do exactly what Bin Laden hoped he would do. It's been a tough decade for us - but it's not too late to take a new path. Sunday's anniversary - the tenth one - needs to be about more than just remembering the victims - it will also needs to be about correcting the course. After ten years - it's time to ditch Bush's 9/11 roadmap of destruction, and begin a genuine recovery.

Hartmann: Your Take/My Take - 9/11 viewer comments

This is the segment of the show when you have the opportunity to make yorself heard here on The Big Picture. Yesterday - the nation marked the tenth anniversary of 9/11 terrorist attacks. In ceremonies - large and small - all across the country and even in countries abroad - people gathered to remember the lives that were lost on that tragic day that forever altered our reality as a nation. Many things have changed in our daily lives since 9/11, but as the President pointed out last night at the "Concert for Hope" event in Washington, DC - 9/11 may have changed the United States forever - but we cannot allow it to define us as a people.....Many of you contacted us over the past few days to share your thoughts and feelings on the legacy of 9/11 as the country paused to mark this milestone anniversary.

Hartmann: Crazy Alert - The problem with Stoner Avenue...

If you're driving down one particular stretch of road in Bemidji, Minnesota - there's a good chance you might not know exactly what street you're on. That's because most of the street signs along it have been stolen. Such is the problem with Stoner Avenue - a road named after Marcus Stoner - Bemidji's first city engineer who lived in the late 1800's - and a road that's signage has a big appeal to people who like having ironic street signs hanging from their walls. Over the last decade - the city has spent $20000 replacing stolen street signs along Stoner Avenue - and just recently held a council meeting to discuss the possibility of changing the street's name. However - about 40 property owners along Stoner Avenue protested the name change - arguing that it would be a huge hassle on them to have to update their driver's licenses and other important documents with an address change. So for now - Stoner Avenue stays. City officials are hoping that those who wish to steal the street signs in the future...will just forget - or get such a bad case of the munchies that they'll be easy to round up at the local Dunkin' Donuts.
