Thom Hartmann Breaks Down Joe Walsh's Big Fat Lie

Joe Walsh was telling - screaming - the same old lie that the banksters, their bought-off Republican Members of Congress, and pundits on GOP TV - aka Fox so-called News - have been telling for years now. And that is that Wall Street wasn't responsible for the economic crash - that the government - and too much regulation - was responsible - and that poor little Wall Street is just a victim of misguided government policy. It wasn't regulation that caused this mess - that's a lie!

The Good, The Bad, and The Very Very Hamartiologically Ugly

The Good! The Federal Communication Commission. The FCC announced a new program today to get low-income Americans across the nation wired for the Internet. The Bad! Fox so-called News. This morning on GOP TV - talking heads at Fox and Friends - also known as the War on Christmas hotline - promoted a story about President Obama imposing a 15-cent tax on Christmas Trees....And the very, very ugly...Phil Bryant. Last night - Republican Phil Bryant won the election in Mississippi to be the state's next Governor. Unfortunately - according to Bryant - Satan won too.

Hartmann: Berlusconi will "Bunga Bunga Parties" end up "Bubba Bubba Parties?"

It wasn't the Bunga Bunga parties that brought him down - instead it was the economic crisis facing Italy. But still - Silvio Berlusconi is resigning as Prime Minister as soon as his government passes a new budget law. So what's next for the billionaire media mogul - who has a thirst for younger women?

Hartmann: The Orphans of ICE

Rinku Sen, Applied Research Center joins Thom Hartmann. Thanks to the recent crackdown on illegal immigration across America - thousands of children - who are American citizens - are being ripped from their mothers and fathers and thrown into foster care to grow up. Children are among the most underrepresented and powerless people in our society. And the children of undocumented immigrants are the "last of the least" in terms of power and influence in our society. This situation where they find themselves - through no fault of their own - the victims of a cruel and dysfunctional system should provoke all of us to demand change.

Hartmann: Meet a Real Democratic Socialist

Maria Svart, Democratic Socialists of America joins Thom Hartmann. Cover your ears, Joe the Plumber - most Americans want redistribution of wealth. With the wealth gap between the rich and the poor in America larger than it's historically ever been - a majority of American want the federal government to step up and address it. According to a new Washington Post/ABC News poll - 61% of American want Washington to "pursue policies that try to" reduce income inequality - as in tax the rich. So I guess we're all democratic socialists now huh??

Hartmann: Will the End of Empire Be Good for America?

In tonight's Daily Take - I'll tell you why the rise of a new global empire may be the best thing that has happened to the United States in generations. According to the International Monetary Fund - China will overtake the United States as the world's top economy in just 5 years. Come 2016 - it will be the end of the American Empire as we know it. And it will be the best news our nation has received in a very, very long time. From our military misadventures abroad - to our crumbling infrastructure and woefully slow start on adopting alternative energy here at home - to our reliance on banisters and their boom-bust cycles - to the loss of "Made in America" manufacturing - to the corruption of our media - and the disintegration of accountability in our government - there were numerous troubling sign posts on our nation's road to ruin. But many of these dangers are lurking just below the surface - not on the minds of most Americans. But in 2016 - when China becomes the new top power player in the world economy - then we'll no longer be able to ignore America's fall from grace - and on that day - we'll have too. look ourselves in the mirror and say - ya know, maybe this whole empire thing was a bad idea from the get-go. Empire is cancer.

The Good, The Bad, and the Very Very Supinovalently Ugly...

The Good! Faribault Woolen Mills. The wool factory in Minnesota has been a community staple since the 1800's - employing local workers - and shipping American made wool blankets and other products all around the world. That was until 2009 - when the factory went under - and the company and all its machinery was slated to be sold and offshored to Pakistan. But that's when two cousins - Chuck and Paul Mooty stepped in at the last minute - bought the company - and reopened again in Faribault Minnesota and putting many of the men and women in the community right back to work at the factory. The Bad! Suffolk County, New York. Jumping on the austerity bandwagon - Suffolk County is making some tough budget cuts - in particular one budget cuts that's sure to leave children and an old war veteran in Suffolk Country disappointed. That county has decided to save 600 bucks by doing away with Santa Claus this year. And the very, very Ugly...Greg Gutfield.
