If the Government Shutdowns - Who Wins?

John Nichols, The Nation Magazine joins Thom Hartmann. Come September - there's a good chance that the government might shut down. And believe it or not - this time - it's not Republicans threatening the shut down. So who IS? And how might a shutdown one month before the election affect who wins the White House?

Full Show 4/19/12: Obama Threatens to Shutdown Gov't

Thom talks with The Nation's John Nichols about Obama's threat to shut down the government if Republicans don't hold to the budget deal made last year. Also discussed: the two-year anniversary of the BP oil spill and whether we've yet to see the worst from it, how the foreclosure crisis is effecting our nation's children and in tonight's "Daily Take" Thom talks about why he doesn't want any phony Democrats.

Full Show 4/18/12: Republicans "Deem and Pass" Ryan Budget

Thom asks a man of faith whether Jesus would vote for Paul Ryan's radical budget. Tonight's "Lone Liberal Rumble" panel discusses how Romney can win in November without receiving strong support from his party, whether welfare recipients should be drug tested and what role Fox "So Called" News will play in selecting Romney's VP. In tonight's "Daily Take" Thom reveals which prominent Republican may be guilty of voter fraud.

Voter Fraudster finally found...Guess Who?

After searching long and hard - and disenfranchising thousands of Americans along the way - Republicans have finally found the culprit in their great voter fraud scandal. Turns out they didn't have to look very hard at all...

The Good, The Bad and the Very Very Quaquaversalously Ugly!

The Good! *Drew Cox* Cox - a 6 year-old in Gladewater, Texas - raised over $10000 dollars from a lemonade stand that was set up to help raise money for his sick father. The Bad! *Pat Robertson* Robertson - the highly controversial televangelist - responded to a mother on his show yesterday who said her 14 year-old daughter had engaged in "unsavory" acts with other girls and might be homosexual. And the Very Very Ugly! *Bishop Daniel Jenky* Jenky - a bishop in Illinois - spoke at a mass this weekend following a Catholic men's march - where he compared President Obama to Hitler. Take a listen...

Fukushima - Could 85 Times More Cesium than Chernobyl be Released?

More bad news coming from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan. While speaking to Swiss lawmakers last month - Japan's former ambassador to Switzerland, Mitsuhei Murata, warned that if the building housing reactor four at the plant were to collapse - as many officials fear might happen - then it would lead to a global catastrophe like the world has never seen before. As Reader Supported News reports - a former official with the US Department of Energy commented on the consequences of a building collapse around reactor four saying, "If an earthquake or other event were to cause this pool to drain this could result in a catastrophic radiological fire involving nearly 10 times the amount of Cs-137 released by the Chernobyl accident." And if that fire were to consume the thousands of other radioactive spent fuel rods at the Fukushima plant - then the radiological event could be 85-times greater than the Chernobyl disaster. So just how dangerous is the situation still at the Fukushima plant - and what are the consequences for the United States? Kevin Kamps if back - he is the Nuclear Waste Watchdog at Beyond Nuclear.

GOP takes Voter ID to new level...

Democracy is on the march OUT of Michigan. Apparently unsatisfied with trashing democracy in places like Benton Harbor and Flint where unelected "financial managers" are now running the cities - Republicans in the Wolverine state are trying to stop people from voting altogether. Or at least making it a lot harder for people to vote. As the Detroit News reports - legislation is in the works that would, "Require voters to affirm their US Citizenship at the polls, have photo identification when registering to vote and government sanctioned training to register others to vote." In other words - if the legislation is passed - Michiganders will have to jump through hoops just to get a chance to have their voices heard in our democracy. Which is exactly what Republicans want - fewer people voting. So is that what's going on in Michigan? Joining me now is Susan Kay Smith - President of the League of Women Voters of Michigan

The Big Picture Rumble - Drug Testing

Will Rahn, The Daily Caller & Judson Phillips, Founder-Tea Party Nation, join Thom Hartmann. Romney projecting on Obama, drug testing welfare recipients and the continuing war on woman are all in the rumble.

Catholics to Ryan - Hands off our Religion!

John Gehring, Faith in Public Life, joins Thom Hartmann. House Republicans again passed Paul Ryan's budget yesterday - and under it - 46 million Americans on food stamps will see massive cuts to their benefits over the next ten years. Is this really the moral way to govern the nation - by stealing from the poor and giving to the rich?

Full Show 4/17/12: The End of Citizens United?

Thom talks with Rep. Ted Deutch about his efforts to overturn Citizens United. Also discussed: how the "war on women" became mainstream, oil barons looking to benefit from climate change and how ALEC was forced to disband it's guns and voter suppression task force. In tonight's "Daily Take" Thom explains the continued lies and dirty tricks coming out of the Republican party.

Would Sigmund Freud have a field day with Republicans?

Sigmund Freud came up with the idea of psychological projection - which is basically when someone projects onto other people belief or actions that they themselves hold or have carried out, but are in denial about. For example - if someone is a habitual liar - they might hide it by accusing others around them of lying. It sure looks like Mitt Romney is guilty of this sort of psychological projection. After all - one of the central messages of his campaign is how awful Obamacare is - even though Mitt Romney was the first to enact a version of Obamacare in Massachusetts while he was a Governor. And while the issue of healthcare is the most obvious form of projection by Mitt Romney - there are several others.

The Good, The Bad and the Very Very Philogastricously Ugly!

The Good! *Eric Schoenberg* Despite the Republicans' filibuster of the Buffett Rule last night - it seems like more and more millionaires are ready and willing to pay their fair share of taxes. The Bad! *Fox News* Yesterday - the Romney campaign chose the adviser responsible for vetting and choosing a VP candidate. The official Fox and Friends Twitter account tweeted, "Romney has hired an advisor to do his VP search. who should we choose?" And the Very Very Ugly! *US Department of Defense* A report on CNN over the weekend revealed that women in each branch of the military are routinely diagnosed with mental conditions and dismissed from duty after filing sexual harassment complaints.

Oil Barons of the World Target North Pole

The oil barons of the world - and the militaries that rely on that oil - are seeing new opportunities in the North Pole as global climate change kicks into high gear. Warming weather is leading to the Northern ice cap melting - uncovering a treasure trove of oil and natural gas reserves. Scientists believe that the Arctic is storing 13% of the world's untapped oil - and nearly a third of the world's undiscovered natural gas. As the ice melts - access to these resources becomes easier and shipping lanes open - so now Northern nations are scrambling to stake out their chunk of Arctic resources as well as running military operations in the area should they have to fight for these resources in the not too distant future. In fact - two months ago - military leaders from the United States, Canada, Russia, Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland met to discuss security issues around the Arctic. But shouldn't these nations have the exact opposite approach to disappearing ice in the Arctic? Why are we looking for more fossil fuels to burn while we're watching our world melt from fossil-fuel induced climate change? Dan Howells joins me now - he is the Deputy Campaigns Director for Greenpeace USA.
