Could a giant tidal wave wipe out the East Coast?

It might be wise to reconsider buying waterfront property on the East coast of the United States. A new report by the US Geological Survey finds that sea-levels are rising four times faster along the east coast of the US than they are globally. This sea level rise will increase the likelihood of flooding and high intensity storms in major cities along the east coast like New York, Boston, and even Washington, DC. But that's just the start of it. The International Energy Agency is warning that if carbon emissions continue increasing at their current rate - then global temperatures will increase by six degrees Celsius by 2100, killing off most of the large animals on the planet - and thus threatening the survival of that species at the top of the food chain - us! So just how troubling is this news - and what needs to be done about it? Miles Grant joins Thom Hartmann - he is a Reporter and Blogger with the National Wildlife Federation.

Will a broke US Sell Ad Space on Dollar Bill?

Books, Movies, and TV Shows all have often tried to paint a picture of what the future might look like. Some - like George Orwell's iconic book "1984" - envision of dystopic big brother government ruling over all of us. Others - like the Hunger Games - envision a future very much like Feudal times, where the nation is run by a small and very, very wealthy elite - who pluck children from the vast, working class poor to duel to the death in a televised contest. And then, of course, there are those futurists like Jefferson, de Tocqueville, Lincoln, and FDR who imagined a nation "of the people, by the people, for the people." Whether the future belongs to Big Brother - or the super rich - or "we the people" remains to be seen. But we're already catching a glimpse of a dystopic - and, frankly, absurd - future America - in which corporations run or own virtually everything we see and do every single day - all around the nation. It's a future where all our commons - the stuff owned by "we the people" - like school busses, firetrucks, police cars, public libraries, parks, road signs, and subways have all been hijacked by corporations and Ad men. In the not-too-distant future - and already in some places around America - corporate advertising runs everything. Take for example this fire hydrant in Indiana - which now belongs to Kentucky Fried Chicken. Apparently - this manhole cover now belongs to Colonel Sanders, too. The New York Times explained what's going on here with a recent ...

Christian Textbooks Reveal The Loch Ness Monster Real

What is Accelerate Christian Education - and what's in its curriculum? Thanks to Governor Bobby Jindal - the public school system in Louisiana is in trouble. Thanks to a new law, thousands of students in Louisiana will receive state voucher money for the 2012-2013 school year to leave public school - and instead attend private religious schools - some of which teach an ultra radical Christian curriculum. And - students in Louisiana aren't alone. Similar programs are running in states across the country - where taxpayer money is being used to fund education filled with the most outlandish of pseudoscience and misinformation. So - if you think that all schools teach that the Loch Ness Monster is fake - and that dinosaurs came before humans - then everything you know is wrong! Mitch McConnell's plan to block every appeals court nominee for the rest of President Obama's term. The Bad! *The Vatican* How do you try to re-brand your image after a decade of controversy? Well - if you're the Vatican and Pope Benedict the 16th - you hire someone from Fox So-Called News to do PR. and the Very Very Ugly! *Rep. Tom Latham (R-IA)* Latham was on a radio show in Iowa over the weekend - when the host started talking about a group of Catholic nuns that are traveling the country - protesting the budget cuts in Paul Ryan's Republican budget which they say goes against the values of Catholicism.

Outsourcing - Bipartisan Corruption!

Zaid Jilani, Republic Report, United Republic joins Thom Hartmann. President Obama is attacking Mitt Romney over his history of job outsourcing during his Bain Capital days. But with the President supporting deals and laws that ship jobs abroad too - isn't this just a case of the pot calling the kettle black?

Congressman Alan Grayson - Citizens United Part Deux & SCOTUS

We begin tonight - with a Supreme Court ruling this morning that's not getting nearly as much attention as it should - it was in the case: American Tradition Partnership V. Bullock. Or what it should be better known as...Citizens United part deux. The issue at hand was whether or not the state of Montana could ignore the high court's 2010 Citizens United ruling - since the state had a law on the books for more than 100 years that banned corporate spending in state elections. Twenty-two states, plus the District of Columbia, and several lawmakers urged the high court to hear oral arguments in the case and re-litigate Citizens United altogether, now that the damage of the decision is clearly on display two years later. But, in another 5-to-4 ruling, the Conservative justices chose not to hear any oral arguments - and essentially struck down the Montana law - and ruled that it's 2010 Citizens United decision applies not just to federal elections - but to state elections as well. So - for the second time in two years - the Supreme Court has given corporations and millionaires and billionaires the right to spend unlimited amounts of money buying our politicians. And this buyout is well underway as the Koch Brothers, Sheldon Adelson, and the Chamber of Commerce pledging to spend more than a billion dollars to defeat President Obama and progressives around the nation. So what happens now?

Crazy Alert: Come Naked - Shop for Free

Over 200 in-the-buff shoppers flooded the grand opening of a new supermarket in Germany last week. The supermarket offered to give the first 100 shoppers over $200 dollars in free groceries - if they showed up to the store naked. Store manager Nils Sterndoff told a local newspaper that he had no idea so many shoppers would show up in their birthday suits, saying, "I never thought a hundred people would come; I thought maybe more like ten." The grocery-store goers waited patiently in line for the store to open - but to ensure safety and order - they were brought into the store in groups of 20. The supermarket's gimmick was so popular that some citizens of Denmark came across the border to strut their stuff and try to save some money on groceries too. Rumor has it an all-out orgy broke out in the wine and cheese department - and there was an attempt at a massive human pyramid in Aisle 5...

How Dick Morris is Toe Sucking the Economy...

Dick Morris was a campaign strategist for Bill Clinton back in 1996 before resigning after news broke that he was sucking the toes of a prostitute. After leaving the Democratic Party in disgrace, Dick - like most other freaks and perverts found a new home in the Republican Party... and eventually on Fox so-called News...often appearing with loufa-obsessed Bill O'Reilly. By 2008, Dick was a rockstar on the Right, and one of the go-to Republican strategists for Fox News. And right after President Obama won the election that year - Dick wrote a very interesting column for "The Hill" titled: "An election that the Republicans needed to lose - good luck Obama." If you want to know why the economy is where it is today - why Republicans are acting the way they're acting - and why President Obama's re-election chances aren't all that great - then it's worth reading toe-sucker Dick Morris's 2008 column. Rewind back to 2008 - remember those days? When President Bush and Treasury Secretary Paulsen were routinely addressing the nation about the dire financial crisis Bush looked scared to death - Paulsen hands trembled. 2.6 million Americans lost their jobs that year. The foreclosure crisis was speeding up, banks were failing, and businesses were closing their doors. It was economic doomsday. And Dick Morris and the rest of the top Republican strategists knew it. That's why Morris wrote in his column after the election: "If ever there was an election that was not worth winning, it was ...
