Big Picture Debate Panel - 27 lies and half-truths in 38 minutes...

Brian Darling, The Heritage Foundation & RIchard Fowler, Progressive Strategist & Andrew Langer, Institute for Liberty all join Thom Hartmann. Romney was declared the unofficial winner of last night's debate - but he kept telling one big fat lie after another. Does misleading America and lying for 90 minutes straight really make you a winner? And where was Moderate Mitt just a few weeks ago? We'll ask tonight's Politics Panel

Hey Media - How can Romney lie constantly & then be declared the winner?

Romney lied about his own tax plan - saying that it's not a $5 trillion tax cut, despite independent analysis of his plan saying it is. He lied about Obamacare - repeating the same debunked myth that the President cut over $700 billion from Medicare. He lied about the President's Wall Street reform law - saying it designates five banks as too big to fail and deserving of blank check bailouts. There is no such provision in the law. And he even flirted with the idea of death panels in Obamacare! But wait - there's more lies!

What the media TELLS you about the debate WILL have a bigger impact then the debate

Here's a little tip before you watch the debate tonight - and before you watch the corporate media's reaction to the debate tonight. What you see in the debate tonight will have little influence on what you take away from the debate. But what the media TELLS you that you saw in the debate WILL have a huge effect. A new study out of Ohio State University shows that viewers of Presidential debates are more affected by the frame in which the media puts the debates than we are by the actual performance or words of the debaters themselves. To figure out how this works, researchers showed young Americans clips from the 2004 and 2008 Presidential debates. The viewers were then given media coverage of the debates to read. One group was given coverage focused strictly on policy - like why each candidate took the position they took - what effect those policies would have on the nation, and so on - the important stuff we as Americans should be getting from the debates. The other group of viewers was given media coverage that framed the debate as a sporting event - which candidate won, who appealed better to what bloc of voters, and so on - the political horserace stuff. After all that - the debate viewers were then asked to describe the debate as if they were telling a friend what happened.

The Good, The Bad and the Very Very Rumgumptiously Ugly!

The Good! *Expedia* In America today - we've become too used to corporations looking out for their bottom-lines first - and putting the interests of consumers and of society second. Well - Expedia - the popular travel website - has come out with a new 3 minute web video promoting marriage equality. The web short chronicles one father's journey of acceptance for his lesbian daughter and her partner. Here's to Expedia - a corporation finally doing some good in our society

Koch front group seeks revenge against Florida Justices

Mike Papantonio, Host - Ring of Fire Radio joins Thom Hartmann. There's something even more disturbing than voter suppression going on in Florida - and yes - Gov. Rick Scott has his hands all over it. So what is the king of voter suppression up to now?

If you make a living sitting on your butt, waiting for your dividend check - don't watch!

The American news media has pointed out at length that the new government in France raised taxes, so that after somebody has made their first million dollars in a year, additional dollars in that year are taxed at a 75 percent rate. The millionaires are unhappy, but it'll save the country. There are two parts to this story that have to do with the United States that you probably didn't hear or see on the American news. The first is that for more than half of the twentieth century, the top tax rate on rich people here in the United States was at or above that French range - here it was between 74 and 91 percent. During those decades of high tax rates on the Romney-rich, by the way, we had the fastest and strongest growth of the middle class in our nation's history. In fact, most credible economists during that era said that the REASON for the strong growth of the middle class was because the super-rich had high tax rates after they'd made their first million dollars a year. The result of that was that instead of taking more millions, industrialists left the money in their businesses - and that money was used to pay decent, middle-class wages to American workers. The second thing you probably haven't heard much about in the American Media is that we have two types of federal income taxes.

Big Picture Rumble - Presidential Debate Edition: Obama Video Bombshell...Fizzes Out

Has the GOP/right wing media jumped the shark?

Conservative media was a buzz yesterday - with word that a "bombshell" President Obama video was going to be released. The only problem? The fuse didn't light and that bombshell ended up being a real dud. Is this what the Conservative media in America has come to?

Staples has your office needs covered & the destruction of the US economy covered too...

Staples business model represents the cancer stage of capitalism. It's also what Mitt Romney claims as one of his biggest accomplishments at Bain Capital - expect to hear him mention it during the debates. So what exactly did Romney accomplish at Bain Capital by investing in and growing Staples? The destruction of one slice of the American economy. Consider this...economies are complex ecosystems with lots of interdependent players and basic rules. In nature, the wide range of players is called biodiversity - maintained by varying ecosystems like the arctic - jungles - plains - and so on.

The Good, The Bad and the Very Very Rhonchisonantously Ugly!

The Good! *Chris Kluwe* Kluwe is a punter for the Minnesota Vikings NFL team. And - recently - he came out in strong support of marriage equality. However - not everyone was happy about his endorsement. Minnesota State Rep. Mary Franson - a Republican - called out Kluwe for attacking "traditional marriage" and said that homosexuality is not "normal behavior." In response to Franson's comments - Kluwe doubled-down on his support of marriage equality - and even offered to formally debate Franson on the issue. Kudos to Chris for standing up for the rights of millions of Americans.
