The Good, The Bad and the Very Very Kenspeckleously Ugly!

The Good! *Tesla Motors* The electric car maker's Tesla Model S was just named the CNET. Tech Car of the Year - beating out the likes of BMW, Audi, Toyota and Ford. This is the second major award for the Model S. It was previously named the 2012 Motor Trend Car of the Year. While the workers at Tesla are probably thrilled about the award - Mitt Romney probably isn't. He of course bashed the automaker in during the presidential election - saying that it was one of President Obama's failed green investments. Kudos to Tesla for promoting a cleaner and greener environment - and sticking it to Mitt Romney in the process.

Why are White Middle-Class Males Committing Mass Murders?

Meghan Murphy, Feminist Current, joins Thom Hartmann. Since the shooting massacre in Connecticut - debates have heated up across the country on gun control - mental health services and the level of violence in our culture in general. But - as those debates are going on - one very important characteristic of mass murders in this country is being overlooked. In 31 of the school shootings that have taken place since 1999 - the shooters were all men.

Your Next Burger May Be Ground-Up Mealworms

Imagine walking into your local burger joint. You're in the mood for a nice, juicy burger. You look at the menu to see what you want - and there's only one choice there - a good old mealworm burger. Wait - what? As disgusting as that sounds - it might become the wave of the future. Researchers in the Netherlands say that mealworms may one day dominate grocery store shelves and restaurant fridges as a more sustainable alternative to traditional proteins, like pork, chicken and beef.

Are you willing to let millions of Americans work as slave labor?

Marc Harrold, Libertarian Commentator joins Thom Hartmann. Millions of Americans in various states will see an increase in minimum wage come 2012 - meaning they'll have more money to spend to help support the economy. If an increase in minimum wage can help rebuild this nation's struggling economy - why hasn't Washington done it yet? If raising the minimum wage is one of the easiest ways to spur on economic growth - why are so many opposed to it?

Is it right to screw millions of Americans in favor of defense funding?

Neil McCabe, Human Events Online, joins Thom Hartmann. The United States spends more on defense then the next 15 closest countries COMBINED. Shouldn't we be cutting military funding - instead of the social security benefits that millions of Americans rely on?

I thought we voted for Democrats?

With just 13 days to go until America goes over the fiscal cliff - Progressives across America are asking why President Obama chose to put social security cuts on the bargaining table. Why is the president letting Republicans hack away at social security - instead of presenting progressive solutions that can help us avoid the cliff?

The Good, The Bad and the Very Very Contabescentously Ugly!

The Good! *Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA)* Senator Boxer plans to create a "clearinghouse" on climate to help organize legislative efforts to address climate change. At a meeting yesterday - Boxer said, "We are going to review the latest information, we are going to work on supporting a major bill, we are going to work on various smaller provisions that we think will move us forward and focus on green jobs, energy efficiency and making sure that we get the carbon out of the air..." It looks like Congress might finally be getting its act together when it comes to combatting climate change and global warming. Let's hope they keep up the work.

Gun Makers Handed a "Get Out of Jail Free" Card

Howard Nations, National Trial Lawyers Association joins Thom Hartmann. Even though their guns are responsible for thousands of deaths every year - the gun industry is largely shielded from any lawsuits related to the deaths and injuries their products cause. How'd we allow the gun industry to gain immunity - and is there any way for this absurd protection to be repealed? We went after Big Tobacco with a massive lawsuit in the 1990's - why can't we do the same against the gun industry?
