"democracy-in-name-only": How much "in name", depends on the extent of (platonic) idealism assumed for "democracy".
EU, Russia , China and others imitate USA style "democracy" with varying degrees of success and assimilation. (Even Saudi Arabia "granted" recently the "right" to women to drive cars (Wow!)(https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/24/world/middleeast/saudi-driving-ban-anniversary.html))
Historically the progress of civilization has been bumpy (ups and downs). Whether the current decline of USA "democracy" is a historical dip or the final stretch before we pass the baton, remains to be seen. The city-state of ancient Athens had just one dip. But in other cases (ancient, Egypt, Roman empire, and i think China) there were more than one "low points".
Obviously i will not live long enough to find out ..... (for better or for worse)
Bill Barr is Trump's Roy Cohn. End of story. Oh, does this future-history leave out the part where our 244-year-old, constitutionally-limited, representative, democratic republic was completely destroyed in only three and a half years? And after Trump had promised to surround himself with the "best people" too, and who even had a red hat (like a Redcoat) that said, "Make America Great Again." Who woulda thunk?
Of course, with several waves of the deadly Republican thought-virus infecting the body politic over the decades since Nixon, whom Trump emulates, our democracy-in-name-only was already teetering on the edge of death long before Trump the Mad ascended the throne. He just gave us the final push.
Ok. Let's accept it as a fact that neither Barr nor Flynn are adequate for their assignments. Among known republicans whom should we recommend as their replacements, so that our society benefits as much as possible, while at the same time minimizing "collateral damage"?
Dare we count the dead because they were afraid of smoking the stock market (which happened anyway of course). Trump matters not, because any Republican would've done the same. And Judging from the primaries, I'm not sure about Democrats would have done better. We need to get corporations out of politics to restore democracy.
Sparks are flying! Awesome hearing in the House today with whistleblower Dr. Bright on the Trump Administration's inexcusable failure in responding in a timely and responsible manner to the pandemic, and lifelong-Republican and mask-maker Mr. Bowen on his 15-year struggle trying to convince politicians on the importance of making critical medical supplies in America.
Not an empty suit, Bowen got really pissed at some of the Republicans and their dumb talking points. Will the media run with it or bury it? It should be a major game-changer for making stuff in America. But, like everything else, It depends on the government protecting our manufacturing base and supply chains for, at the very least, our medical system. Too bad it took a pandemic for people to wake up. This is a national security risk.
Good liars at least know what motivates their victims, but these strutting chickenhawks have no clue why all the little people would risk their lives for their families for low pay and a miserable existence through no fault of their own. Of course, Trump would never do that, but "essential" workers" (especially in the meat-packing plants) had better, gawdamnit!
"Ding ding, now bring me my bucket of chicken and hamburgers! And ah... get tested first, wear a mask, and don't get too close to the Resolute Desk. Sorry, what's good for the gander ain't good for the goose, her goslings, or the rest of the filthy gaggle crapping everywhere."
Surely, even a pandemic is about freedom and liberty, whatever that means -- the freedom to go bankrupt or die, or both. But we'll cut benefits just in case. Lazy, money-for-nothin' Democrats -- we gotta motivate 'em. Onward, Christian soldiers!
One way or another, it's always about the number of the dead with these lying scumbags clinging to power.

@Legend
Thanks for the wikipedia link.
Now I am wondering not only what other Generals may be doing, but also how many registered Democrats (!) may also be doing something similar.
More specifically wrt WA state, any particular candidates who are worthy of voting (preferably from all political parties, even minor ones)?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Flynn
Makes you wonder what all of the other retired Generals do.

it's true that they've made a lot of bad decisions since they've been in government...
For Worn Out Door Knobs.

So it would be fair to say in summary that djt's medical career resembles that of Dr Kevorkian and his political career resembles the same path.
Could be enough yo-yo's to vote the 'bad smell' in again... now there's a prospect!

The armchair general safely back in his gilded quarters has ordered "his" shellshocked troops out of the trenches into withering enemy fire with no air support, no artillery, and no bullets. For Trump's "warriors" it's all “about freedom and opportunity.” (As if the poor bastards have a choice.) And what warriors do is die. "It is what it is."
Good liars at least know what motivates their victims, but these strutting chickenhawks have no clue why all the little people would risk their lives for their families for low pay and a miserable existence through no fault of their own.
