Ditto. Podcasting is an altogether superior form of receiving information for all of the reasons you laid out. Primarily, it's the freedom of time and movement, the freedom of choice, and the freedom from obsessive marketing (Constant interruption reduces one's attention span.) that are the most attractive. I believe it's the wave of the future, until something better comes along, as more people discover its benefits.

Personally, I still love to read old-fashioned books too, plus peruse the news most mornings on the internet. (I quit watching TV in 2001 after 9/11 when they hyped needless warfare in the Middle East.)

No matter the method, however, it's vitally important to multiple-source so as not to fall into the trap of stove-piped information, whereby one becomes less knowledgeable and more susceptible to manipulation due to a narrower field in which to gather and understand the news.

The one caveat is to avoid aggressively any outlet that purposely spreads misinformation, disinformation, lies, and half-truths in the furtherance of a biased political agenda with ulterior motives. The list is depressingly long, but most of us are aware -- or should be -- of the usual suspects who deal in "fake news" as their primary business model.

Yes, there are "two sides to a story," as the propagandists are fond of saying. But what these "highly questionable sources" (a euphemism) don't say is that the only real "sides" of objective news are the truth and the lie. And these despicable rabble-rousers all too often error on the side of the lie.

But I agree with Thom's fundamental point that Democrats need to reach out more effectively to those millions who do listen to talk radio in the more rural areas and enjoy the one-on-one nature of interacting with the host. Whatever it takes -- expanding the base of voters by persuading people with the truth is the only way to beat the bastards who persuade people with lies.

However one gets their news though, the truth is more powerful than the lie -- if it gets out!
