We know the Mercer family has funded Bannon's alt right propaganda machine as well as Cambridge Analytica, and the Mercers are just part of the bigger Koch network. I for one won't be shocked if Dean finds these same connections in his lawsuit.
This 21st century form of Fascism is being used to manipulate simple minded individuals by whipping up a form of hate, via fake news, which in turn keeps many voters in a state of confusion at election time. Look how well this all worked in demonizing a decent hard working public servant like Hillary, while at the same time lifting up a racist rat like Trump to an all american flag waving patriot status.
It's pretty easy to feed into already exisiting economic unhappiness by convincing someone that the person who "looks different", or has a non christian religion is the one to blame. The Fascists realize that the groups who "look different" vote Democratic and thus by making them the enemy the alt right keeps it's unhappy base despite the fact that their economic frustrations are in reality being caused by voting for the Koch Party.
I don't think your desire to have as much as you can get as soon as you can get it is much different from anyone. The difference between you and the others on this blog seems to be that we realize that desire leads to the economy described so well by Charles Dickens. Of course, the 1890's, the 1920's and somewhat the 2008 are different versions of the Charles Dickens description.
It seems when Teddy Roosevelt said that everyone deserves “a good job, enough money to buy a house, take a holiday once a year, send the kids to college and retire with a good pension” he did not mean that is all they want. It seems that he meant that is a minimum they deserve for being a citizen of the US and putting in a full week’s work.
I have been on this for about ten years. I miss it. It certainly helped me understand the left better. I remember Thom saying that all people want is a good job, enough money to buy a house, take a holiday once a year, send the kids to collage and retire with a good pension. That day realized how different I was, I wanted everything and was willing to do anything to get it. To me the only difference between the left and the right is how they believe wealth should be distributed. Oh well looks like I might have to find a new place to argue my very intelligent, fact based comments. Hope not had a lot of fun with you all.
The dear Lady in the photo you use without permission was apparently passionate about collecting valuable jewels. I am sure she wishes that you cease using her as an avatar without permission misrepresenting her opinions and values. ha
Not only would war for profit become a thing of the past with Democratic Socialism, the gasoline engine would have faded into history decades ago, and our energy sector would be totally green by now. In addition, everyone would have access to not for profit healthcare and education.
Most importantly, we wouldn't have mega billionaires wielding more power than "We the People."
This time around, with crazy people in control all around the planet, more war for profit, will quickly spin out of control and into a global fireball....my opinion anyway. How can any sensible person not see this coming right now????
Hi Jeffisse. Money is an addiction. Like people who are pack rats in there homes. I'm sure you have seen TV shows of people addicted to collecting things in their house, until you can't even move around.
I assume that it is like the Forum. He shut it down when it was overun with mindless, factless right wing trolls. Plus I see Thom as winding down his show. He is 66. Moved back to Portland. Will probably retire at some point.
I assume no one is still reading this blog article, but in case you, Brayan, are reading this, I would like to point to an article that appeared in Look magazine in the 1960's. The article was providing information to say why there will never be any billionaires in the US. The article probably didn't say it but it was implied that no billionaires adjusted to 1960 dollars.
It seems that the takeaway is that with the policies of the New Deal and the Great Society no one would become morbidly rich.
Then Reagan and Lewis Powell came along. So, for fifty years until they arrived there were no billionaires.

Yup, stopping conversation is now the way forward for the Fascist Democratic Party. Is anybody really surprised?

Interesting that shutting down conversation is considered a win. One can see why billionaires love right wing trolls.
Ownership only has the privileges given to it by the consent of the governed. Unfortunately, the governed are whoever SCOTUS wants.
Hi Thom, How do I respond to a friend who has been brainwashed by JIm Fetzer's conspiracy theories on school shootings ?
Jim Fetzers claims are: Parkland Shooting is a scam, that nobody died, and there is no obituraries on record for their deaths.
Please research Jim Fetzer's theories. Thank you Thom, Gary
Only in your world knobs. Fact free.
My Friend Legend,

Jeffisse - I too, have wondered the same thing. And spoke about it.

The "free" in free market means free of govt protections (regulations).
