  • America Needs a "Right to Vote," as Georgia Proves Jim Crow Never Completely Ended   3 years 33 weeks ago

Unfortunately the research to prove that voter suppression really-really works in the right's favor was probably paid for by the left. After all, it stands to reason their normal mindset would be you are on your own and ours would be every citizen should be able to participate in our democracy. Our statistics likely helped them to determine it was worth the effort. I say this because it absolutely creates some awful PR for the right. Voter suppression is a bad look; it must have an affect on how many of the unaffiliated voters view their tactics.

We used internet connections and pushed voter registration drives during the Obama elections. They adopted our strategy. It was rather delicious that Trump screwed-over Brad Parscale who gave his all setting up their systems. Karma+Trump=Bigly Bitch

People of color and those with multi-racial ancestry are going to be running the show eventually. I am betting on them to do the right thing when the demographics change. They are doing a great job now running for office and winning in America. That must scare the shit out of many old white conservatives (not to mention Jordan Peele's productions).

The work for equality never ends. The HR1 Senate fight will be another way to educate folks.

The Republican Party of "nope, can't help the little people" -- let's keep naming the minority party over and over and over lest the wingers keep getting away with pretending they are on the right side of truth, justice, and the American way.

Democrat's democracy (largely thanks to FDR) used to be the envy of the world until Republicans began cheating their way to power in a mad dash to fascism after WWII, from Nixon to Reagan and all of them since, with the exception of Eisenhower (the last good one) and possibly Ford (who only stumbled into power and then stumbled again by pardoning Nixon before finally stumbling out of power in a pitiful bid to win over voters).

Trump, McConnell, McCarthy, et al. are just the latest symptoms of a long-term disease afflicting the right side of the aisle: the chronic dysfunction of modern "conservative" thought, which is kissing billionaire butt.

Who are the others? Or are you just naming Democrats? What happened to bothsidesism?

Good read Thom. We now know those dead and sick numbers could have been reduced significantly with a bit of common sense from Governor Cuomo of NY and Walz of MN among others.

I used to think that Laws were only made for good and betterment of behavior.

Until money made one party evil enough to crush another's freedom and life.

While wingnuts are crying crocodile tears over the purported "cancel culture" shit-canning (properly so) racist and sexist children's books, cartoons, and toys, the flaming hypocrites are trying hard (and have been for a long, long time) to cancel millions upon millions of legal voters (all too often succeeding).

Are there any other kind of voters to speak of? Where are all those massive hordes of nonexistent "illegal" voters anyway, whose real numbers are so low that they have never once -- E-V-E-R -- made any statistical difference on the outcome of any election in modern American history, especially in 2020?

Watch what the left hand is doing while the right hand is grabbing you by the balls or the pussy.

Here's another gem that's been all over the news but bears re-posting: Clueless Papa John's ex-CEO whines about being canceled. The comments are hilarious. 🤣

rostasi: Yup, being a fan of The Onion, I know that but not sure the other "guy" does. And yup again, Babylon Bee isn't at all funny and couldn't hold a candle to The Onion. It's just a pathetic, wing-nut knockoff ...IMO.

BTW, the link provided by the other "above poster" is an excellent example of really good humor and worth a watch, which of course is always the case with Billy Connolly.

Although, I often wonder (not really) why wingers don't apply the same standard to their guy Trump and his signature ad hominem attacks, which is about his only real political skillset and which has been quite effective, at least until his whole schtick finally wore out with the majority of voters and he lost the House, the Senate, and the presidency in only four years all by himself -- an amazing political feat in its own right.

  • Why the Republicans Will Only Talk About "Big Lies" & Culture Wars   3 years 33 weeks ago

The suggestion is taken and the site has been added to my file of reliable sources. In fact, since there's a lot of blank space on this particular blog (Haha, they're coming at us fast and furious.), I will take the liberty of filling it up with Rep. Lofgren's must-read forward:

On January 6, 2021, both chambers of Congress convened in a joint session for what should have been a demonstration of a fundamental feature of our democracy: the peaceful transition of power. Instead, domestic terrorists attacked the U.S. Capitol, and January 6th will now forever be remembered as one of the darkest days in our nation’s history.

I have deep concerns about the behavior of former President Trump and the actions he took which incited and encouraged the domestic terrorists who attacked the Capitol. I agree with the bipartisan and historic majorities in the House and Senate which concluded that it was both constitutional and necessary to impeach and convict former President Trump for those actions, including his false statements, and to disqualify him from holding future office. The Article of Impeachment expressly discussed the prohibition of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution on any person who has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the United States from “hold[ing] any office … under the United States.”

Like former President Trump, any elected Member of Congress who aided and abetted the insurrection or incited the attack seriously threatened our democratic government. They would have betrayed their oath of office and would be implicated in the same constitutional provision cited in the Article of Impeachment. That provision prohibits any person who has previously taken an oath as a member of Congress to support the Constitution but subsequently engaged in insurrection or rebellion from serving in Congress.

This is my fourteenth term representing most of the City of San Jose and Santa Clara County in Congress. I have been serving as a Member of the House Judiciary Committee since 1995, I served as Chair of the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (now named the House Ethics Committee) from 2009 to 2011, and I am the current Chair of the Committee on House Administration. I also participated, either as a Member or as staff, in all four modern presidential impeachment proceedings. As a Member, I participated in three of the four proceedings in our nation’s history in which a President was impeached. I have participated in congressional proceedings to consider the removal of officials in all three branches of the federal government, including serving as an Impeachment Manager in the Senate trial for former President Trump’s first impeachment; serving as an Impeachment Manager in the Senate trial for former federal Judge G. Thomas Porteous, Jr., who was convicted and removed from office; and helping to lead the investigation of and subsequent debate in expulsion proceedings of former Representative James Traficant, the only Member of the House to be expelled in the last 40 years. In view of this experience, colleagues and constituents alike have asked my opinion about possible recourse for and appropriate action regarding Members’ involvement in the January 6th attempt to overthrow the lawful government of the United States.

Some have asked about the criteria related to expulsion where there are violations of the 14th Amendment provisions related to insurrection. Although scholars can disagree, from reading the Constitution, it appears that a two-thirds vote of the U.S. House of Representatives would be required, if it were determined that a Member(s) violated the 14th Amendment’s prohibition of the support of insurrection. In addition to the 14th Amendment, Congress has broad and express authority under Article I to “punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour.” More research on this question is warranted. Additionally, actions that incited, encouraged, and/or coordinated the attack on the Capitol – which among other things delayed Congress from completing its constitutional responsibilities with respect to the Electoral College – could also violate a number of criminal statutes, although the decision about whether to file such charges is outside the purview of Congress.

Any appropriate disciplinary action is a matter not only of the Constitution and law, but also of fact. Many of former President Trump’s false statements were made in very public settings. Had Members made similar public statements in the weeks and months before the January 6th attack?

Statements which are readily available in the public arena may be part of any consideration of Congress’ constitutional prerogatives and responsibilities. Accordingly, I asked my staff to take a quick look at public social media posts of Members who voted to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Below is the social media review they shared with me, and I am now sharing it with you.

    Zoe Lofgren
    Member of Congress

What is best, is Australia where you are required by law to vote and fined if you fail to. It is called Compulsory Voting. The Republicans are afraid of the vote.

Oh, okay, we can play that game. (Games are fun.):

So, is the other poster above now trying to "cancel" the previous poster above? Isn't that statement blatantly hypocritical given the same above-poster's explicit expositions on the phony subject of "cancel culture"? Furthermore, isn't that statement also rather "oversensitive"?

If so, then why stalk the offending posts, obviously inviting replies? Oh yeah, free speech works both ways. Hey, and that's cool, right? Or, is free speech only reserved for those (white) privileged few?

It's a fine line, but the above-above poster has been trying very hard not to attack the above-poster personally after, admittedly, crossing the line a few times before, for which I apologized ...kinda.

If one reads said posts above carefully, they criticize and ridicule (IMO rightfully) the statements and ideas themselves made by the above-poster, not the above-poster his/her/itself, however close the proximity may be or appear to be. Referring to generic, third-person, lying Republicans, racist Trump clowns, and fake Christians, etc., etc., is not an ad hominem attack against any particular member's person.

The above-above poster is sorry that the above-poster appears to draw inferences and to associate him/her/itself with such a "basket of deplorables." But how is that anyone else's fault but the one who might be self-identifying with such fools, pray tell?

    Feb. 26, 2021 blog:

Legend: "... I want to call them hypocritical but want to know if I was allowed to say that. or that it might be too offensive."

Sue: "You can say that a statement [emphasis mine] is hypocritical, or a public figure, but not a fellow member."

Suggest that you look at Rep Zoe Lofgrens social media report that was recently released. It is Social Media posts by Republicans concerning the elections. Thom could do a weeks worth of programming on it. It shows just part of how far Trumps lies go. It should be making much bigger waves in the media than it is.

Is Joe Manchin (D-WV) really helping the working class in WV by working against the Democtatic Party. He certainly does not have tough livng conditions in DC.

  • FAQ - Message Board & Chat Room Rules   3 years 33 weeks ago

My wife and I got our 2nd Pfizer shot last week - no nasty side effects. I was glad to see it was RNA (no live or attenuated virus) with no mercury or other nasties in there. Anyway, I have emailed the CDC at least 3 times asking why don't any pandemic experts in the media (including Dr. Fauci) recommend to people to get their vitamin D levels checked with a 25 hydroxy D test since a few studies have shown that low vitamin D levels ramps up the immune system. I asked if a study was done to see if Afro Americans with serious Covid 19 side effects have low vitamin D levels since higher melanin levels prevents adsorption of vitamin D from the sun. Looks like a possible correlation to many but not to the CDC. I also emailed MSNBC a few times asking why there are no naturopathic doctors (or MDs who practice natural medicine) on any of their shows promoting ramping up with Vitamin D3. No answer yet - perhaps it's because their cash cows are the Big Pharma commercials with lab made drugs. Big pharma despises natural remedies since a patent can't be obtained for Vitamin D3. About 8 years ago I would get severe eczema and SADS every November (I live in the Seattle area - if you want SADS - this is the place). I asked the derm doc, what is the mechanism. She said, it's because the air is drier in the winter time. I told her I'm not buying that because my house if fairly humid. She gave me a cream and prednisone. The cream gave me nasty burns on my belly, legs and neck and the Prednisone made me (a guy) look 3 months pregnant! I was done with that. I suspected low D levels so I had to beg my family MD to give me the 25 hydroxy D test. With reluctance from her and the nurses, they drew my blood. My D levels were near 0!!! I started ramping up and got my D levels above 60 and try to keep it there. It's been 8 years and haven't had SADS, eczema, a cold or flu since. My family doc (a naturopath) always reminds me to keep my D levels up along with Liposomal vitamin C and zinc. You won't hear this come from a traditional MD. This is the same cocktail treatment given to trump by his Osteopath Dr. Who knows where trump would be if his Dr. omitted the natural cocktail. I'm also wondering why Thom hasn't had a Natural doc on his show emphasizing this safe immune boosting regimen. I watch Thom on FSTV almost every day and look forward to that day. I know Thom is not in cahoots with big pharma like the MSM. This aforementioned regimen could be saving thousands of lives yet, due to corporate profit motives, we hear crickets!

Always suspected yet proven once again, the rest of Thom's Blog members can now fully appreciate where sad little clowns get their so-called "news": the psychotic right-wing universe of "alternative facts" -- this time from repugnant satire that fake Christians think is true, a rape culture that fake Christians think is funny. And why are fake Christians so proud of their ignorance and immorality? Well, because they are fake Christians ...and just plain dumb.

Thom, "oversensitive" private citizens and private companies with normal human consciences -- offended by overt bigotry infused throughout society, and exercising their First Amendment rights by freely taking it upon themselves outside the arena of petty politics to address systemic racism and sexism haunting them from America's white-supremacist, male-dominated "good old days" -- is so silly, so, ugh, "progressive."

"The [cough, cough] sane side of the aisle" thinks that that is just really hilarious and feigns outrage to provide cheap, red-meat entertainment to their racist, sexist cult of wild-eyed, dumbed-down Trumpees, who actually believe the "cancel culture" is a real thing.

(Now THAT is comical ...and kinda sad.)

Winger-speak reinterpreted through the lens of actual sanity: Republicans have nothing of substance to offer the American people in regard to policy ideas other than the lunacy of huge tax breaks for the super rich and deadly deregulation for their poisonous monopoly cash cows.

So, to stay relevant with their truly ignorant and highly delusional voters, they -- OF COURSE -- have to invent phony wedge issues. "Why, those goddamn prissy Democrats even 'cancelled' those comical words 'nigger' and 'cunt' in polite society! And, dang it, lynchings and rape were so damn funny too!"

Enter Rush Limbaugh, Tucker Carlson, and Cuz into this, ah, "debate" (?) ...

  • Why Is America Not Holding the COVID Hitman Accountable?   3 years 33 weeks ago

Jollyjaws, so you're saying that Bush and Cheney planned 9/11 for political and/or financian gain and Trump "created" Covid 19 for similar reasons? I guess when we consider that reagan committed treason with Iran it's not too far fetched to think thet the republican party would continue all these years down that nefarious path...

you may be on to something

  • Why Is America Not Holding the COVID Hitman Accountable?   3 years 33 weeks ago

What will really sell you on masks is knowing someone that has had the virus. A good dose of it. A friend of mine was very sick for 3 weeks. Much worse than any case of the flu. Months later he cannot walk a block without complete fatique. The virus has long term effects that you do not want. One effect is ED. That alone should wake up Republicans, but it does not. There is a lot that they do not know yet about this virus.

How mask wearing became a Democrat vs Republican thing is the fault of Trump. Unfortunately I do not know of a way to pin it on him legally. But, we are number 1 in Covid because of Republican stupidity.

  • GOP Uses Dr. Seuss To Distract From Their Embrace of Gangster Capitalism   3 years 33 weeks ago

Thom, the silliness of canceling Dr. Seuss, Mr Potato Head, and Pepé Le Pew was a function of oversensitive progressives.

The comedy of their lunacy was provided by people on the sane side of the aisle.

  • Why Is America Not Holding the COVID Hitman Accountable?   3 years 33 weeks ago

Sixteen years ago Abbott was all about the Ten Commandments. It would be good if he reread numbers 6 & 9. Now he is about deflecting the results of bungling the energy crisis during the big freeze. His approval rating was dropping, so let's see if this "100% Open" gets him back over 50%. I want to like Texas; one of my ancestors was born there. They had one of the greats, Governor Ann Richards.

Decisions made using a shoot from the hip mentality is a Republican trait. No scientists consulted--no surprise. They also don't do nuance. Placing a capacity percentage on businesses and venues must be driving conservatives nuts. Expecting them to differentiate during the ups and downs of the statistics used to determine policy isn't realistic. Mask--no mask. Open--closed. That is how they are wired and want things. They certainly won't think the results of their management style are murder.

Abbott is a creepy bastard working for voter suppression and against LGBTQ rights. His middle name is law-suit, and he wants to continue to kill the environment with fossil fuels. So, why would he give a crap about somebody with a deadly virus? He really should listen to his Pope about these issues.

The mask war is going to get uglier. So many people have put their lives on the line, got sick, or died while caring for our health and providing our necessities. And now two thirds of the way through the crisis and with only 10% vaccinated, this is the thanks they get from the far right Republicans.
