Full Show - 10/5/11. Occupy Wall Street

Thom leads a debate panel concerning the protests on Wall Street and later debates the issues of the American Jobs Act bill stalling in Congress, the proposed extension of unemployment benefits and Chris Christie's decision not to run for president in the "Lone Liberal" rumble.

Hartmann: Bill of Rights birthed at 26 WALL Street

History is full of ironies - one of which is unfolding today. Consider this: 222 years ago this week - the Bill of Rights was introduced in Congress. And we all know that the very first guarantee in the Bill of Rights was, "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." But what most people don't know - is that this right - the most fundamental right that our democracy depends on - was birthed in the belly of what is today...the beast. That's right - in 1789 - the capital of the United States was not in Washington, DC - but instead in New York City. And Congress convened in a building called Federal Hall which was located at...26 WALL Street - right across the way from where the New York Stock Exchange stands today. And this afternoon - tens of thousands of people marched through the streets of New York City - exercising their first amendment rights against the hijacking of our economy by Wall Street

Hartmann: Lone Liberal Rumble: Are Republicans playing with fire here?

Jamie Weinstein, Daily Caller & Heather Cirmo, Blue Skin Solutions join Thom Hartmann. Instead of focusing on jobs - House Republicans are focusing on cutting federal health and labor programs - according to the new budget proposal that came out of the labor, health and human services committee. Aren't Republicans playing with fire here - obstructing the jobs bill? Are Republicans really going to sink the economy and show everybody in American just how desperate they are to win the White House in 2012? We'll discuss that and more in tonight's Lone Liberal rumble!

The Good, The Bad, and The Very Very Nidorously Ugly

The Good! Elizabeth Warren - She's surging in the polls against incumbent Senator Scott Brown in Massachusetts - and she shined last night in the state's first debate for the Democratic nomination. The Bad! Michele "Are you hypnotized" Bachmann. On the campaign trail in Iowa - Bachmann was asked by a supporter, "when will we impeach President Obama and get him out of the way?" instead of pushing back on the man's uninformed remarks - Bachmann jumped on board with him.....And the very, very ugly...Wall Street. A new lawsuit was filed in an Atlanta court alleging that some of the biggest banks - like JP Morgan - Bank of America - and Well Fargo - defrauded returning veterans out of hundreds of millions of dollars

Hartmann: The 99ers - tipping point for revolutionary changes?

Daniel Halper, Weekly Standard & Ben Manski, Liberty Tree Foundation join Thom Hartmann. The" Occupy Wall Street" protests are showing NO signs of letting up! Millions who make up the "99 Percent" are rallying in cities across the nation...but the big show was in New York City - with tens of thousands in the streets. So where does this movement go now? And the corporate media has weighed in the legitimacy of the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations. And so too have politicians and policymakers. We'll debate what people are saying - coming up

Hartmann: Occupy Wall Street is Unionized

Stephen Webster, Raw Story joins Thom Hartmann. The Occupy Wall Street movement was put on steroids today as tens of thousands of unionized workers took to the streets in solidarity with the demonstrators who've been camped out in lower Manhattan for three weeks protesting against Wall Street's destruction of our economy. The massive movement - some estimates put the number of people on the streets at 15000 - marched through the streets of New York City - flanked by hundreds of police officers and at least three NYPD choppers hovering overhead. The crowd marched from the state courthouse to Foley Square and then on to Broadway - closing down that street. Similar marches took place in Boston and San Francisco as well. So what does this day of action mean for the movement as a whole

Full Show - 10/4/11. Occupy Wall Street

International President of the United Steel Workers union, Leo Gerard talks to Thom about the organizations support behind the Occupy Wall Street Protests. Later in the Daily Take, Thom relates the recent protests to Gandhi's theory of corporate takedown.

Hartmann: First they ignore, then ridicule, then fight you - then you win

So said Gandhi to his legion of peaceful demonstrators as he took on and defeated the British Empire - the most powerful empire on the planet at the time - without raising a single musket. And today - history is repeating itself right here in America with Occupy Wall Street.

Hartmann: A Scorned Love Affair with Chris Christie

There was a political bombshell this afternoon in the Republican race for the White House. That is if you call a candidate saying at least 2 dozen times he's not running for President and then today calling a press conference to once again announce that he's...not running for President - a political bombshell. Yet - that's exactly what New Jersey Governor Chris Christie did today - and the cable news outlets went completely nuts - covering almost the entirety of his hour and 15 minutes long press conference. Bill Scher - Online Editor at the Campaign for America's Future joins Thom Hartmann.

Hartmann: Eric Cantor...no jobs bill, no safety net, no regulations...no! no! no!

Neil McCabe vs. Thom Hartmann. House Republicans again proved they don't care about creating jobs. Eric Cantor called President Obama's "American Job Act" "unreasonable" - and said the House won't even vote on it. Since when is trying to get over 20 million unemployed Americans back to work "unreasonable"? Instead of focusing on jobs - House Republicans are focusing on cutting federal health, education, and labor programs. The New York Times is reporting, "House Republicans are laying the groundwork for another battle with President Obama over spending and domestic policy with a bill that would cut some of his favorite health and education programs, tie the hands of the National Labor Relations Board, and eliminate federal grants for Planned Parenthood clinics." Unclear how many jobs will be created under this assault against programs that educate our kids and assist with women's health care. So how long until Eric Cantor and the Republicans drop their war on Planned Parenthood and get American back to work rebuilding this country?

Hartmann: Occupy Wall Street & The Real Boston Tea Party

There's pressure mounting on the young people in Manhattan - many of whom refer to themselves as "the other 99 percent of us" or the "99ers" - to lay out some clear reasons as to why they are occupying Wall Street In fact - the mainstream media has turned to ridiculing the movement - because there isn't a set agenda or clearly defined goal. Even though the real reason why the mainstream media is ridiculing the movement is because it doesn't fit within their corporate-friendly narrative. But first - in case there were still doubts as to why the 99% of us should be upset with how the top 1% have hijacked our economy - and why people are now taking to the streets to do something about - consider some history & facts. Then Lee Fang w/ Think Progress joins Thom Hartmann to talk about how the growing protests against transnational corporations' love affair with greed resembles another historic protest...the Boston Tea Party?
