A Culture of Cooperation
May. 26, 2008 3:25 pmBy Thom Hartmann A...About a decade ago I was in the far, far north of Eastern Australia, at a remote public school serving the Aboriginal village of Lockhart River. All the students were black/Aboriginal and all but one of the teachers was white, all from other parts of Australia. I interviewed several of them, and one made the most interesting observation.
"These kids are from a cooperator culture, not a competitor culture," he said, pointing out that cooperation was what kept Aboriginal society intact and functioning for tens of thousands of years. "When we taught them to play soccer, they changed the rules so that they play until both teams have the same score. That is when they end the game."
We need more cooperation in the world. Consider this example (with special thanks to my old friend and editor Dave deBronkart for the tip on this):

Obama vs. Hillary: Punishment or Healing?
May. 23, 2008 11:35 amBy Thom Hartmann A...Last Sunday I wrote a short blog suggesting that Obama should consider Hillary Clinton as his VP www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/22/8163/74523/400/520298.
What has startled me even more than the roughly 30/70 "good idea"/"are you nuts?" emails I've gotten in response is the ten percent or so (on both sides, but mostly the latter) who expressed concern that with Clinton (or any "establishment/machine" candidate) on the ticket (a'la LBJ) that Barack Obama would face a fate identical to that of JFK.
