All genuinely patriotic Americans must unite to repudiate this quick-spreading cancer in the Republican Party - or 2024 in America may simply echo 1933 in Europe.

This week may be the last chance before the next election for Joe Biden and the Democrats to prove they can actually govern and accomplish things the American people want. If they fail, fascism wins.

History shows that most democratic nations don't realize how serious their fascism problem is until it overtakes them altogether. We saw it in the 1930s in Italy, Germany, Spain and Japan; today it's happened in Hungary, Turkey, Egypt, Russia, The Philippines and Brazil, and is well underway in Poland, India and multiple smaller countries.

Here in America, the GOP today has a serious fascism problem, and it's endangering all of us. It's closer than most of us realize.

Fascism isn't just about the merger of oligarch and state interests; it also requires a repudiation of the rule of law and the institutions of democracy itself.

— Is Donald Trump becoming more irrelevant or more dangerous? The outcome of the vote "audit" in Arizona and the beginning of serious investigations by both the January 6 committee in Congress and the Justice Department (and President Biden now won't recognize his executive privilege claims) seem to indicate that Trump is done. He lost, he's a loser who won't accept it, and he's about to be legally nailed. But, paradoxically, he's increasing his power over the Republican Party with every day that passes. He's succeeding in getting voting systems changed in state after state so they are easily corrupted. He's succeeding in getting Republicans in more states to "audit" their elections, even elections he won like in Texas, all presumably in preparation for his 2024 run for president. All so that if he loses again, he can nonetheless follow John Eastman's January 6th plan to throw the presidential election into the House of Representatives and seize control of America. The 2022 election may be the most consequential of our lives, because if Republicans seize control of the House, the Senate or both, and if they maintain control of a majority of state legislatures, he may be able to pull this off in 2024 if his health doesn't interfere. If he does have a problem that causes him to drop out, he has set the board for any one of several other competent neofascist Republicans to simply step in and run the same game. Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, Rick Scott, Ron DeSantis and a few others are all quietly wishing that his age and obesity will catch up with him. Watch this space.
