Why Impeaching Bill Barr is More Urgent Now Than Ever
Impeaching Attorney General Bill Barr won't just protect us from a corrupt senior law-enforcement official; it will also strengthen our protection against the dangerous, autocratic tendencies of Donald Trump. Trump famously asked once, "Where is my Roy Cohn?" He has found that person, that corrupt lawyer, in William Barr. As we head toward the November election and January 20, Donald Trump becomes more dangerous by the day. He has learned how to use the levers of power in the White House, and has applied them in increasingly corrupt ways, transferring over 2 trillion dollars of our tax money to himself and his corrupt oligarch friends. But in addition to corrupting the flow of money in our country, Trump has also corrupted our criminal justice system, the last bulwark to protect us against people like him. Bill Barr should certainly be impeached, and then prosecuted, for the very clear crimes he has committed while in office, as well as for his perversion of American standards of justice. But, more important, Bill Barr needs to be impeached as soon as possible to remove from Donald Trump the power to "help his friends and punish his enemies," a power that is the hallmark of a dictator. Impeaching Bill Barr is an essential step to saving our republic and restoring American democracy. -Thom
