Young Americans are dying in record numbers because we are reaching peak "Reagan Revolution." Ronald Reagan altered the American political and economic system in 1981, destroying worker rights and changing our tax code to radically increase the political and economic power of the very rich.
This year, for the first time in generations, the number of people who are "middle class" has fallen below 50%, while the wealthiest 1% of Americans own more than the bottom 90% of Americans combined.
And now we learned this week from a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association that for several years in a row the death rates for young people, 25 to 34 years old, has been exploding, while the death rate of Americans 25 to 64 years old, people in their prime of their lives, has also been continuously increasing.
The only hope for the survival and return to prosperity of the American middle class is to repudiate neoliberal Reaganomics and return to the political and economic system that FDR put into place in the 1930s and built the American middle class until Reagan flipped it upside down in 1981.
