The Economic Winds Are Howling...
In 2008, we saw the result of three decades of neoliberalism in the United States and Europe, what we used to call Reaganism and Thatcherism, damage and shake the world financial system. Rather than resolving the problem by repudiating neoliberalism, including its emphasis on more money for rich people and less money for workers, big tax breaks for the wealthy, the deregulation of corporations from pollution to banking, and so-called "free trade," the central banks of the world have been desperately trying to hold things together with bubblegum and bailing wire - also known as low interest rates. Now it has reached the point where one of the largest banks in Denmark is offering negative interest rates on home mortgage loans. What that means is that if you buy a house and take out a mortgage right now with this bank, the amount that you will pay back at the end of 10 years will be less than the amount that you borrowed. The bank is paying you to take out a mortgage. While the bank is charging some fees to cover some of their costs, this is clearly an unsustainable business model, And shows us how the efforts of central banks desperately trying to avoid the world sliding back into the crisis of 2008 are failing. Batten down your hatches. The economic winds are starting to howl. -Thom

The Jeffrey Epstein Case is Weird
Epstein was hired by Bill Barr's father to teach high school girls, the same Bill Barr's father who wrote a novel about sex slavery. Epstein goes on to prosper in the sex trafficking business. Meanwhile, Trump's close friend Epstein introduces him to Melania Knauss, and they end up married. Epstein gets arrested and Barr recuses himself because his law firm defended Epstein, then un-recuses himself after talking with Trump. Woman files a lawsuit saying that both Epstein and Trump raped her when she was 13; it's certified by a court. Following Epstein's arrest, reports come out that Barr's Justice Department now has hundreds of videos, movies and pictures of Epstein's rich and powerful male friends having sex with the girls he's been trafficking. Barr supervises the prison Epstein is put in, where he mysteriously dies. Now cons are suggesting Bill Clinton is behind this and #ClintonBodyCount is trending with help from foreign bots. -Thom

The right-wing love affair with Ayn Rand ties conservatism to one of the most disturbing sociopathic killers
There's a direct link between a sociopathic killer in 1927 and the GOP's willingness to embrace a sociopathic president like Trump. That link runs through the work of Ayn Rand. When Donald Trump was running for the GOP nomination, he told USA Today's Kirsten Powers that Ayn Rand's raped-girl-decides-she-likes-it novel, The Fountainhead, was his favorite book. "It relates to business, beauty, life and inner emotions," he told Powers. "That book relates to ... everything." Trump probably knew that anything by Rand would be the right answer for Republicans; the party has embraced her for decades, to the point that Paul Ryan required interns to read her books as a condition of employment.
