The Republican "no" machine on Global Warming is at it again. Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) tells President Obama not to be a leader on climate change, saying, “As a country, I know we’re not there yet, so I would hope the president wouldn’t be out in front of where the country has been.” Sens. Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman have worked overtime to help craft a climate bill that can attract significant GOP support. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) dissed their efforts by saying “Obviously, they’re going nowhere.” What, they're not best friends anymore? Seriously, though, this is critical legislation and is getting far too little attention from the national media - perhaps because the national media is taking millions of dollars from the fossil fuel industry in advertising money.
The Department of Labor announced “nearly $55 million in grants to help workers, many in underserved communities, find jobs in expanding green industries,” as the United States and China race for clean energy jobs. At the same time, the Chinese are building wind-turbine factories in the USA, thus benefitting from our stimulus and green grant monies. Time to reconsider that "buy American" provision that the Republicans stripped out of the Stimulus bill?
