The Kind Of Tax Reform We Don’t Need?

After the massive failure of healthcare reform - the thinking in Washington is that President Trump and Republicans in Congress will now try for "tax reform." Slashing the corporate tax rate will - in all likelihood - play a central role in whatever tax plan they come up with. But is a cut to the corporate tax rate really all that neccessary? Even as corporate profits continue to reach record highs - corporate tax receipts have shrunk to just around 10 percent of overall federal revenue - a sharp drop from the 1950s - when they accounted for about one third of all revenue. So isn't this more about starving the beast and kicking hundreds of billions from working people to the billionaire Republican donor class than anything else? PLUS - With Bernie Sanders about to introduce Medicare-for-all plan in the Senate - is America finally about to follow the rest of the developed world and guarantee healthcare as a human right?
